crazyrichard Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 I was following your build over on autemo, I have actually went and bought the revell kit because of this! I really like how it is just clean and simple and it's nice to see one that hasn't been chopped for a change. Jack haha cool and now you are here and well the revell version i think is easyer to build . i def. want to buy revel version in the future .. i have some plans for an even wilder merc lead sled with like rear wings and .... Lots of nice progress today... yes well i was at the benc from around 09:00 and stopped around 22:00 ... i just couldnt stop lol all in easy going mode ... bit of internet inbetween
crazyrichard Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 i went on with the engine bay , its become a puzzle lol first dryfitted it with the chrome covers to see how much room there was for a master brake cilinder tight but there was room , i used a master brake cilinder from revell and added some bras wire then decided to build the engine to my own liking .. also because of fitment .. i went trhough my engine / parts partsbox and found a intake manifold , that was way to big but that was good i could cut it to size and it was a clean looking manifold .. made way for the top coolant hose (that will become a real hose later instead of styrene) and cut the pullys , that will become different with a real belt . found some headers that fit perfect dryfit to see how the hose fit when putting it together , later i can change the hose to something nicer altered the roud strip now it only go's around the opening and not run trhough along the firewall still need to make a carb or .. so this will sit higher but found the perfect top plate for a air cleaner ! later i can paint the middle the cars bodycolor .. and i like how the shape is similair to the engine compartment
crazyrichard Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 steering column and steering wheel ... the kit provided a steering column with a pin where the wheels needs to go .... then i saw the steering wheel and instead of a hole i found a nother pin > pin + pin = fail i could have made a hole in the back but i used a steel pin . now the pin will be bondo-ed to the bullet in the middle and that way i can create a more shaped bullet in the middle just a test with cloth electrical tape now when i will make the final version the tape will sit under the edge .. but just to see how it looked i stuck it around the edge.. just to see how it looked building the engine ....
Modlbldr Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Nice work you are doing. Great subtle mods. Keep at it. Later-
crazyrichard Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 thnx tom primer time  already supersmooth the extensive sanding on the styrene payed off , some minimal stuff but almost smooth as .... with everything in primer the engine compartment now also becomes one i closed op one triangle shaped opening in the x-cross in the chassis .. because you could see where the drive shaft gos in the tranny and well that looked horrible .. instead of reshaping the end of the driveshaft and getting the tranny end nicer i just closed it so you cant see after primering the steering wheel i just clear coated it , edge will be white , when thats dry i can start chrome
crazyrichard Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 interiour .. well because the tub was one mold with the rear bench i just could not get the pannels masjed nicely , the shapes are all round and my hands where to big haha so i decided to leave everything brown .. too bad the front bench was masked and ready for some spraying of the inserts .. but well then did the top of the dash silver , later i could do that bodycolor and leave the middle strip and gauges chrome .. painted the knobs and heater and radio chrome
OldTimer50707 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 This is an amazing build. Great craftsmanship.
crazyrichard Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 thnx lee !! well i was a bit sad about the fact i needed to put in the dash due to the mods and could not tape of those bench and doorpanels .. and otherwise i think it would have been impossible to get my bog hands in that tub and tape those round shapes at the bottom .. much easyer wit a tub you need to assemb le so i tried this a band with a mexican motive where the bench should have been other material its done but now i reconed i should have made the pattern smaller and print it a bit less sharp and yes that mag is way to big i will make a new one for that
crazyrichard Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 thnx mike well just made new mags smaller but so you can still see what on and took more time and made actual pages with something on it
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Is the color on the top of thd dash the body color? bobthehobbyguy
crazyrichard Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 no its not .. i have not decided what color to paint it ... the top is just silver i reconed i can easylt mask that off and spray it the body color later .. and this way leave a silver strip inbetween te bottom and body colored top ...
jack_fletcherr Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 thnx mike well just made new mags smaller but so you can still see what on and took more time and made actual pages with something on it Sorry for the noobish question, but how do you make the magazines? like how do you know what is going to be the right size? Cheers, Jack
crazyrichard Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) i use fotoshop , then make a file in the richt size (cm) and search for a picture of a magazine and make it smaller in the size / cm i want then save it and hit print in fotoshop ...if you print it from your pc it wont print the correct sizebtw scale wise my mags should be a tad smaller but testing with the body on made me choose thgis size so its still visible and with the body on the mags already look smaller Edited February 17, 2014 by crazyrichard

slusher Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Richard you make it look so easy.. Is the print on the seat paper???
crazyrichard Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 thnx guys .. the mags are 1,13 cm wide en 1,55 cm tall and yes the backrest is just printed paper and rubbed a bit to get it softer i just gave those printed mexican designs a very very slight wash with darkbrown and no these are not guitar plectrums the yellow on is the triangle aircleaner i showed earlyer and sanded to become thin , the white one i cut out of plastic card how it was if i do it like this with a bolt in the middle and filer material inbetween it should look alsmost like a real one
slusher Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Nice work Richard it keeps getting better and better...
CaptainAhab Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Air cleaner looks great already. I can see it finished now...
crazyrichard Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 sprayed the chassis black today so i can start some chromework when that is dry then washed the grille with black enamel , half way picture the rough edge will be smooth , that will sit out of vieuw then took a chrome part i wont use and tested something out , with a hand brush i brushed on a layer of high gloss varnish and loved the result so i did the chrome parts like that and well so much more depth in the chrome and more shine you can see me taking the picture in the bumper .. the blak is from my sweather maybe i will do a nother coat and i will also do the wheels with the varnish
crazyrichard Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 chassis / undercarridge in semi gloss black .. will get a lot of chromework ... this really came out smooth as glass , not polished or .. just as smooth after spraying .. now i'm in doubt if i wil clear coat the rails or not
