MsDano85gt Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Does anyone know just exactly how many hobby shop only kits were made as far as vehicles go?? I know for sure of the rambler s/c there are 2-3 jimmy flinstone resin kits...... i saw a 70' olds 442 these are very cool any unique of themselves as you can build a "pro touring" style mode with the extra machined aluminum wheels and low profile tires and photo etched metal parts/ emblems i'm curious if anyone knows exactly how many cars and or trucks were kitted this way? i'm almost certain the oldsmobile kit i saw was a repop of the johan olds?? as the rambler s/c is the exact same thing as the johan rambler model kits
Modelmartin Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 HSO also included the Pro-stock Comet and the old Sox & Martin Cuda. They had a whole bunch of the Flintstone kits - must have been at least a dozen of them or more.
MsDano85gt Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 i think i saw the cuda one too and on the auction site its listed as very rare and hard to find (mite be some truth in that)theres another forum member in search of an apparent amc amx?? that would be very sweet!
lordairgtar Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Model Empire put a T-Bird NASCAR kit with no decals in a plain white box with black graphics. The idea was to buy aftermarket decals and build your kit the way you wanted it.
Rob Hall Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 The '69 Rambler was one also IIRC. I have the 442, the metal wheels are pretty nasty..
Casey Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Jimmy Flintstone was involved with all the HSO (Hobby Shop Only) labeled kits AFAIK. They supplied the pewter wheels found in the Rambler Pro Street, '70 Olds 442, 1971 Cuda, '69 AMX, etc. The JF slammer style kits (Lakestar, Fire Roadstered, etc.) were all branded as HSO kits, too, so there are probably close to twenty kits which were sold in HSO packaging.
Austin T Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I'd love to get the photo etch out of the AMX kit.Okey says there is a guy that can make some for him but I've been waiting for about three years now.

Wasn't there a Chevy pickup from around 1990 (labeled as a Boyds custom or something) in this series, or am I thinking of something Testors..it wasn't the AMT tool..

Looks like there are two "PRO STRT" license plates, four side marker light housings, and two 390 "V" nameplates on the fret?:
Austin T Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) Looks like there are two "PRO STRT" license plates, four side marker light housings, and two 390 "V" nameplates on the fret?: Could of sworn there was more to it than that. The one the I saw Okey had in his catalog was about the size of a standard MCG fret with all sorts of goodies on it. Edited February 16, 2014 by Austin T
disabled modeler Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Here there just are too many reissued and or new kits that never show up since we have no real hobby shop...so most kits to me are a HSO item.
sjordan2 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 The newly reissued 1/8 Jaguar XK-E is available only from a vendor called toys2day (a German firm) or Amazon Germany, Just under 90 Euros.

The Hobby Shop Only (HSO) series of kits Testors released is what Dan is asking about/discussing, so let's try to keep this topic about those specific kits, please. Here are some of the others:

Why is it worth your mentioning? I think the XK-E story would qualify as a single online hobby source based on this question. What does it matter if it's only Testors?. Man, are you testy, and why do you feel compelled to address that, except for the fact that we don't like each other and you want to dis me? Sheesh. Edited February 16, 2014 by sjordan2

You of all people, who demand infinitely specific thread titles are now going to try to derail a thread which has "Testors" in the name of it because it doesn't fit what YOU want to talk about? Someone widen the door ways before you have to turn sideways...

MsDano85gt Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 I was not aware of the number of offereings available I only really knew about the rambler s/c and some of the flinstone kits never knew about the fire roadster very cool the amx is very awsome tooI have had a rambler in the past want to say i traded it off to one of the many "Al's" on this forum specifically one from floridaI do remeber those rims being "junk" as one poster mentioned they take alot of work to even get them slightly "polished" up looking the low profile tires usually crack if they were not already cracked still very cool kits! the 390 ci motor in the rambler is one of the betters that i've seenwant to say the whole kit is a re in carnated johan kit.....

I ask again: what is wrong with pointing out in this subject that Testors is not the only company that has "hobby shop only" offerings? MY posts continue to be negative? Holy Moses how to you carry those around with out a wheelbarrow? You being Mr. "I Refuse to Offer Anymore Help Without Being Thanked Profusely". This thread is about TESTORS HOBBY SHOP ONLY kits. It was a line of kits that has almost two dozen offerings, more than enough to discuss. Not kits offered by other hobby shops, not limited edition kits, not kits sold in limited quantities by specific retailers. Sir with all due respect you run around here demanding people use this forum exactly as YOU see fit (and no I'm not talking about that infamous WiP progress thread comment), and yet when there's a thread that has a specific topic, and has amazingly managed to stay on that topic, you came in offered off-topic content, and then got all bent out of shape - yes I consider telling a Mod that they're out to "dis you" after they simply made a request and even said please, being bent out of shape - when someone asked you to keep it on topic.
scale trucker Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 ive got all of the testors jimmy flintstone hso and i just counted 19
Austin T Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) Something is fishy. The original thread title never had the word Testors in it, not until skip posted. Not taking sides but pointing out shady coincidences. Edited February 17, 2014 by Austin T
Casey Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Something is fishy. The original thread title never had the word Testors in it, not until skip posted. Not taking sides but pointing out shady coincidences. I added it for further clarity. I thought it was clear Daniel was asking about Testors Hobby Shop series of kits, as James did too, but that's why I added the clarification post. Sometimes I will add to or edit a title or correct misspelled words to make it clearer and easier to find when searching for a post or subject.
Duntov Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I have the 70 Olds 442 coupe kit --- It is pretty nice and you can build up a decent representation of the real deal with it --- promo style chassis but personally I don't worry too much about that one small issue --- I suppose you could cross kit it with the Revell 72 convertible kits --- I have not tried but it might be worth a shot --- I did not realize there were so many other similar offerings in that line --- good info and these kits are worth picking up when you find them --- Regards Bill (Duntov)
Tom Geiger Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Getting past the static here... We've agreed that the FOUR old Johan kits in this series are...Rambler Pro Street, '70 Olds 442, 1971 Cuda, '69 AMX. I think I was told that those molds were not at Johan when the big Seville implosion happened, and thus were not part of the auction where Okey bought the remainders. So I don't believe Okey had or has those tools. Where did they go off to and where are they now?
Casey Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I've wondered that myself, and the Mercury Comet Pro Stock kit, too, which Testors also released.
Rob Hall Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Anyone know when these were released? IIRC, I was seeing them on the shelves in the late 90s, though they may have been old stock. One thing I remember about the Ramblers is this one store I was in had 4 of them on the shelf, opened, and the roof pillars were crushed because the box packing was too tight...
