afx Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Found this in a box of parts I purchased. I would like to restore it as a crate motor or maybe in the back of a drag boat, but what engine is it? My guess is a Ford 429. And what kit is it from? Edited February 28, 2014 by afx
Casey Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 That is a Chrysler 426 HEMI, but I can't say which kit it came from. My guess would be AMT or MPC.
6bblbird Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 That is a 426 Hemi with a modified (Chevy?) timing cover.
shift13 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Show the oil pan? The heads and valve covers say 426 hemi but timing cover looks wierd to me like a chevy or a 392 hemi? Looks like the distributer was glued to look like a 426
10thumbs Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 afx, it's an af/x motor. Mopar 426 with manifold for Hilborn injection. Makes for an early af/x, early funny car motor. If you run across another one, can I have it? Michael
booboo60 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Agree, hemi, Chevy timing cover, maybe the afx ford cyclone funny car! I believe it has a hemi in the kit, amt!
Doctordarryl Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I thought it might be the injected 426 Hemi from the "Little Red Wagon" by IMC and later re-released by Lindberg but there does not appear to be a transmission attached to the block.

afx Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) Here is a picture of the oil pan. The bell housing and transmission are both MIA. Edited February 28, 2014 by afx
gtx6970 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Looks like a chevy block with hemi heads on it
slantasaurus Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Looks like a chevy block with hemi heads on it No, its definitely not a Chevy block.....The crank case extends down below the centerline of the crankshaft like a B/RB/Hemi Chrysler engine. It might be a Chevy oil pan though. The block, heads, valve covers, and distributor look like parts from a JoHan Funny Car (ie: Challenger, Ram Rod/ Gene Snow kit), the oil pan and timing cover look like Chevy parts, the intake looks like its from an MPC kit possibly for a SOHC Ford engine. All that stuff would never bolt together in 1:1 scale but in plastic it can and seem to have been done.
shift13 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Lookd like youve got a frankinstien engine there bro
afx Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Lookd like youve got a frankinstien engine there bro Yea, starting to sound that way. If nothing else I have a nice Hilborn manifold and a cool timing and valve cover
mnwildpunk Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 You got one old forparche motors ultra rare
10thumbs Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 afx, I think the motor will work fine in a boat. The oil pan is probably not even visible, am I right? A Hemi and Hilborn injection will draw enough attention away from what type of oil pan is applied. Go for it. Michael
afx Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 So I started disassemble the engine last night and these parts are designed to fit together. It's not a kit bashed engine. I'll post pictures this evening.
mnwildpunk Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I am just spitballing here but I wonder if it like a heavy equipment engine because I'm stumped
Jantrix Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Gotta be from some wacky Tom Daniels/Ed Roth type thing.
Force Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Looks like something that could be from a Jo-Han kit to me. Edited February 28, 2014 by Force
