Bluemiles22 Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Just a small update. Detailed the carb a little bit and added some fuel fittings, opening doors and trunk just aren't working out for me so I have a new kit on the way. In the mean time Ill finish the engine and move on to the frame.
retroguy Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 too bad about the body, been there... nice work on the engine, what size are the an fittings...
Bluemiles22 Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Thanks for the compliments guys, I used detail master #1 fittings, although it looks to me like on the left side of the hard line a #2 compression fitting snuck in there. I'm goin to have to do a little bit of cutting on the chassis to get the engine to fit. I really wanted to make a set of headers for this project but there's just not enough room, so I just used the kit exhaust manifolds. Should have another update later tonight.
Doug Bowen Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Rich...don't give up totally on the opening of the doors and trunk. Evergreen makes real small square stock that can be glued/welded to the door/trunk edges... then file them down to where you are happy with the fit. It takes a bunch of "yutzin' around" to get them where you want them. But it will work. Give it a try... D
DumpyDan Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Looks like your doing a fine job, nice engine detail, keep it coming.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Ok I got a little bit further on the engine, added the transmission, brackets for the alternator and power steering pump, and the exhaust manifolds but one fell off. By tomorrow I should have belts on the pulleys and a distributor added. Thanks for looking.
Bluemiles22 Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Engine is pretty much done and wired. I have to figure out a different way to mount the power steering pump if I decide to put it on, the pulleys didn't line up the first time I did it. Hopefully I can get some paint on the frame and suspension parts today. The new kit should be here soon, I'm not going to attempt the opening doors and truck right now. Maybe on a future build I will. Thanks for looking.
falcon65 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Looks good!!! Where can I get one of those 572's from?
1 bad55 stan Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 That engine is so cool,i think i'll be ordering one for a future project, keep up the good work..
dragzz Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 thats engine looks really good so far keep up the great work
Bluemiles22 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks for the kind comments guys. The engine is available from VCG resins. Manny had some great stuff I would definitely recommend ordering from him. I got some color on the body. I'm going to attempt putting some stripes on the car. I know the 66 didn't have them but I always liked the look. The base coat is metallic white. Thanks for looking.
dragzz Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 nice paint work there rich what paint did u use was it a water base and clear did u use as well . did u airbrush it or just from a spray can just asking . that paint came out well keep up the great work
Bluemiles22 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks dragzz. It's auto air from createx, it's water based. It was airbrushed on but I haven't clear coated yet, still have to hit it with some blue candy. It's hard to see in the picture but some careful masking gave me some pretty decent chevy sport stripes. This is aluminum base over the metallic white. Should get a pretty cool effect with the candy over both colors.
charlie8575 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I have one of these that stalled due to some paint problems- I'll probably get back to it sometime this year. It's a very nice kit that builds up into a very credible model when it's done. Keep going- you're doing fine. Charlie Larkin
Bluemiles22 Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks Charlie. Quick shot I the body with some candy on it, I'm starting to like these auto air paints. I was able to get two separate base colors down, and then a candy color all within one hour. All I had to do was use a heat gun in between coats. I should have the body clear coated shortly.
charlie8575 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Very nice. The phantom racing stripes look good. Charlie Larkin
dragzz Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 vary nice so far i use wicked air from the same poeple that make auto air its works great
Bluemiles22 Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Well.....everything was going smooth with the clear coat until a nice blob of silver paint got spit onto the side of the body, back to the pond with this one...again. Tomorrow is another day
