Here are the projects my daughters are currently working on (for the intro, read "The PROJECT" in the General Forum- http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86524

Their paint choices are a little weird, and slightly off. They have little consideration for where and how things go together. But they're 12-year-old girls who have never done this before, and they're doing a FINE job. They've got HOURS invested so far. They haven't just thrown these things together. Most importantly they're havin' a good time.

The only real help I've given is cutting the sunroof out of the '39 Chevy, and I did the paint on the Charger's body. High-dollar paint...

My son is supposed to step-up and start on his 'vette. I'm holding him to it, too.

Very cool! My daughters are now 26 and 30, but I built a few models with them both when they were young. Those models are still in my display case and hold very fond memories for all of us. My 30 year old was at our house and was showing her boyfriend my display case. She was nearly in tears when she saw her Ghostbuster car, that we built when she was around 10, sitting in a prominent place!

Enjoy these times, your girls will never forget the time you spent with them! :)

True. Parents spend so little time with their kids now, that this is absolutely critical.

I hope they (and you) have fun with it, and that they stick with it. Show us your son's work, too when he gets something ready to show!

 That's great I love it.! I had two girls to one did not want anything to do with things like this but the other one loved it she is in to cars and has made some models and I remember Friday nights watching the Dukes of Hazzard and she had all the toys like that and today she takes pictures at the car shows that I show my 67 Mustang GT Convertible in. Last year she got Mr Gene Windfield to sign the under side of my car he was in Chicago for a show we were at. I do have to say the other one makes good thing to she gave me two great grandsons they to will soon know all about cars.!

Neither of my two girls were really into cars. Both have always been into crafts and working with their hands that way. They still do. I think the big draw of the model cars back then was to get into Dad's magic hobby room and touch all his tools and paints! And having Dad's full attention probably had something to do with it too!

Okay- Abby (the '37 Chevy) decided she wanted to paint her car instead of staying with the molded color. This went badly- a twelve year-old girl with her first rattle-can. I DID offer to help... Anyway, after she put an unbelievably thick coat on one side, then fingerprinting said thick coat- she asked for help. SO here it is- after several days soaking, and lots of sanding, it'll get one more coat of primer, then I'll coach her thru the actual paint-

Savannah's car is DONE and she's proud enough of it that she's taken it to the friend's house that owns the Charger she wanted to emulate, and she even took it to school-

This was actually a horrible kit- except for a newbie young lady. Many parts SCREWED together. What the heck...? Any way, both girls have had a good time. Both of them have expressed interest in doing it again. Mistakes were made- the lesson I wanted them to learn about being able to read and follow directions wasn't lost on them. We'll see.

I'll post pics of the finished Chevy as soon as Abby-Jo gets it done. And my son (finally) started on his project last night. He's the one that needs this most. Again, we'll see. Thanks to ya'll for watchin'.

Awsome. Nice to see you sharing the hobby with your kids. My son (also 12) Goes to every club meeting, helps me at most shows I do and has a pretty good collection going. I wish he would spend a bit more time building but, I do not want to push him too hard. Lets just hopethey all keep the passion for the hobby. Thank you for sharing.

They both look pretty good. The little'39 Chevy coupe almost looks finished in the light gray primer, there's a ton of them out there in the 1:1 world like that.
