Foxer Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 One word .. well, ok, I have to force that ,, timemanagement! I have all those things you mention but still build year round. There's a place for everything. Granted, I build at a glacial pace compared to many, but rarely a day goes by that I don't do something on a build. As the glue dries I hose out the gutters.
Greg Cullinan Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I'm on an opposite schedule. Lay low in the winter with the early darkness and all. Spring and summer I build models and the honey-do list. It's so nice having the sun out til 8pm I feel like I gain half a day, definitely the momentum.
tubbs Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 too bad your shutting down for the summer, my building time slacks a little , but for me, there is no better relaxation than to come in from a good days work and crack open a kit (unless it's doing something with the family, but if they sit and watch the boob tube, that's another story). even if it is just to plan something, or look for a part. I am lucky I have a room where I don't have to put anything away which is a big plus. I was out yesterday, looking at all the stuff I have to do besides the honey-do list.... can anyone tell me why we have to clean the garage every year? how does it get like that...... evil garage elves???
Tom Geiger Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I hear ya Harry! I'm looking out the window and see all the leaves / branches that are down in the back yard. I have a ton of outside cleanup to do. Then I'll be getting my annual load of mulch for the gardens. Last season I painted my deck, but had bought enough paint to do my bridge and all the unpainted wood up near the pool. Looking at the deck, I'll be needing to do another coat due to the harsh winter. I scraped it up pretty bad shoveling. My bench sits in place year round, and I do try to spend a 1/2 hour a day on something, even if I just run through and spray a few quick items. From January to April, it's NNL East season so my build time gets sucked up with show preparations. I got the vendor packs done this weekend. And just when you think you've seen daylight, you find other chores... yesterday I remembered that my garage workbench is held up by the tubs full of show table leg extenders! So I need to empty my messy bench completely to retrieve those... and of course it's all jammed in with my grills, patio set and other outdoor stuff that has been crammed into the garage for winter. Argh!
JTalmage Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Building season is pretty much over for me too. I might work on my kits once, maybe twice a month and only for maybe an hour or two. Its hard to drive about 60 miles to work on something that isnt a necessity. When I need to drive 40 miles to work on my Lincoln that is a necessity.
High octane Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 All my "outdoor chores" will be there when I get to them. No hurry.
Rob Hall Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I'm not much of a fan of outdoor chores..that's why I pay for a yard service and a pool service and people to cut the palm trees when they look unruly. What I am looking forward to in hot season is getting in a lot of pool time in the evenings..

Everything Mike said. If you want it to happen, it will happen. All you need to do is block the time to do it. Charlie Larkin
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Building "season" is just about to be starting again for me. I STILL have about 2 weeks to finish my move (I've been saying that for months now), but the for-sure end is finally in sight. Of course, with full-time employment starting up again, multiple 1:1 car projects of my own, a couple of model-related obligations to honor, and nice weather for outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing and flying coming up, bench time may be a little limited for a while yet. But it will be nice to have the option to work on models, which I haven't had since well before Christmas.
