KJ790 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I picked up a couple Moebius Great Dane Reefers the other day and just started on one of them. I wanted to make a few changes though. I wanted to have quilted rear doors with 4 cams instead of 2, so I scratch built some. I also wanted to have a carrier reefer unit, so I scratch built one of those as well. The wheels are from Ben Wicker and should complete the look. More to come soon.
tbill Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 great job on the doors, they look terrific! can't wait to see you finish this, gonna look great.
kwtrucker Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 KJ, You've done a great job so far. What did you do and use to make the quilted doors and Carrier reefer unit?
KJ790 Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Thanks guys. For the doors I used styrene sheet that had a "tile" pattern in it. I just turned the pattern 45 degrees and cut out the rectangle for the doors. I put bare metal foil over them to make them look like stainless. The reefer unit was made of sheets of styrene cut and bent into shape. Then I used .040" half round rod to make each rib on the top part. That was tedious for sure!
kilrathy10 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Excellent work on the doors, Man.....Great idea......I had thought of doing that, too.....Just hadn't really figured how I'd do it, yet.....Your solution is a very good one....
truckabilly Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Very nice looking door. Must have been helluva job to get the BMF into the grooves. Can´t imagine doing it myself. Great job, really.
Chuck Most Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The doors may have been tedious to construct, but they look great! I'm using those same wheels on mine.
Truck parts Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Great build and love the detail on the doors.
purepmd Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 You have a great start on what will be a very cool trailer. Doors look very good, love the Carrier unit.
KJ790 Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 I got a lot of work done over the last couple nights. I still have to put the marker lights on and a few small details such as a hubometer, but it is starting to look like a trailer now. I shortened it 2 scale feet to make the overall length 51'.
tbill Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 nice work KJ, those doors look terrific on there, well done.
Harry P. Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 That shot of the rear of the trailer looks like the real deal! Very nice work.
KJ790 Posted April 17, 2014 Author Posted April 17, 2014 Thanks guys! I finished it up tonight. Here are the finished pictures. I'm still deciding if I should scratch build a spare tire rack to put under it. For now it is done I suppose. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88458
