empinut Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Finished this awhile back but added a better exhaust (dual quiet pack) and also detailed the carbs and added a "cool lid" kit so the engine lid clears the carbs on the tall Empi manifolds. also added a wash to the cylinder barrels and block. Some of the glass was never mounted correctly so I popped them out and used fresh BMF and white glue. The black Tamiya paint has held up well....it was sprayed over the bare plastic after only a bath to clear the mold release. Even after polishing with novus #1 it immediately attracts dust. Working up a custom Calif. black/yellow plate. Rims are one offs replicating American wide 5 bolts I created using Americans with the smaller bolt pattern removed, then adding the wide 5 bolts from a Fujimi Porsche.
Dale W. Verts Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Love these things... did you build the dual-port manifolds, or does this kit maybe come with them? Dale
empinut Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks Mike, Carl, Dan, Mike and Dale. The manifolds are the empi tall manifolds from the Revell 1/25 beetle kits on the option tree. Cut off the IDA carbs that have not survived the many repops and modified slightly to mount the fabulous 48IDA's from Rep and Min of Mryld.
TooOld Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Nice looking Bug and an excellent looking engine ! Very nice work .
om617 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Very nice. Great job on the engine and exhaust. May i ask where you got the intake trumpets?
empinut Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Thanks for the kind words. The velocity stacks are from Studio 27, bought from RCS Motorsports. I added the venturi tubes with trimmed down brass tubing. I will add some pictures to a new thread in the resin aftermarket section which show the carb parts if you are interested....manifold, IDA carb body, velocity stacks.
