am73grand Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) I was digging through the stash looking for something unique for my next project. This Tamiya Volvo 850 Race car kit just screamed to be pro-modded. I already built one box stock and I couldn't stop thinking about how this would look with a blower sticking out of the hood. So here goes....... This is a curbside kit so I had to cut the hood open first. I'm concentrating on finishing the Falcon but this will be a fill in until the Ford is done......Thanks for looking! Mooneyzs Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Awesome build... seeing this made me think of a lady who drove a volvo wagon years ago as a bracket racer at Sears Point Drag Strip and she always won, she wqs not fast but was always consistant. This is going to be a cool build.
fitforbattle Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 As a Swede I'm obliged to hate this idea, however! As a Swede I love seeing volvo's getting trashed. And as a car freak I love the idea! Keep it up!
Speedfreak Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 This is no longer a 'yuppy' wagon, now it's a 'giddyuppie' wagon, for those days when time is of the essence.
am73grand Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 Did a little bit on this over the weekend. I really enjoy making roll cages, especially once I get past this point. Now it's just pure fun. Thanks for looking!
charlie8575 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Too bad those kits are so scarce, and I don't have another. I'm also guessing it'll be a long time, if ever, before Tamiya re-issues this one. I don't even like dragsters, and I'd build this. Very cool, Ron. Charlie Larkin
W-409 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 This is the coolest Volvo 850 that I've seen... Actually I think it's the only cool Volvo 850 that I've ever seen... Great work with the roll cage, I can't wait how this turns out...Keep it going.
Robberbaron Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Wholeheartedly endorse this! Definitely a 180 degree departure from the original intent of a Volvo wagon. There is an inordinate amount of 1:1 Volvos that get converted to American V8 power, for some reason (usually Chevy 350s). Never seen one taken to this level, though (that is a compliment).
