twopaws Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 A great build of a classic. Gotta love those old chrome sleds. Beautiful.
Danno Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Love those old Roadmasters! '58 was probably the high point . . . of 'old style' Buicks! Yours is gorgeous.
krazyglu Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Holy smoke's that is jaw dropping, I don't think it could be any more perfect. I am with Tulio, this is a work of art.
Sixties Sam Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Beautiful! Really well done! Great color scheme, and I like the connie kit and wire wheels. Very good work! Sam
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Thanks every body!! Your words are inspiration for me. I'm always trying to find ways of improving my builds without spending months & years on one project. I'm not much for contests & the like, so I do the best I can in a short amount of time while still trying to produce a nicely finished model. Having missed out on all of these great old annuals from the late 50s & 60s I have a lot of time to make up. But I am making a dent. Thank you again for all of the kind words!! Steve
charlie8575 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Steve, that really is a great build. I like the antenna. What did you use for making the mast and the bezel at the base? I was also wondering how you got the inner telescoping part to stay put- a bend with glue inside the fender? Charlie Larkin
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 28, 2014 Author Posted May 28, 2014 Charlie. I got the idea for the antenna from looking @ Richard Manson's '57 Pontiac promo re-build. I liked the look but I didn't have any "surgical" tubing to make it with. But I do have lots of plastic sprue, so I thought I would try it with that. Started out by heating & stretching the lower part to the size I wanted, then heating & flattening the base on a hard surface. Cut it to length & then drilled out the top to accept another piece stretched thinner. Cut that to the length I wanted & then just a touch of heat to the tip. Painted it Testors "chrome silver" & glued it to the body. Pretty simple operation. Took probably all of 10 minutes to make. Steve
