charlie8575 Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 The Hindustan Ambassador, which has been unchanged for over fifty years, and was minimally changed from its 1949 introduction, may have finally ended production. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/05/27/production-world-oldest-new-car-halts/ Charlie Larkin
DavidG Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 WOW!! What an absolute bummer!! I am going to be losing so much sleep over this bad news item!! Actually, I've never heard of this car. When I followed the link, I thought: "Wow, that really does look like something you would see in India." But then, what do I know about India? This car must be to India what the Jeepney is to the Philippines. If I were super wealthy, (like Jay Leno) I'd buy one for my 1:1 collection cause you gotta admit it. They are neat!
Danno Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 How will we ever go on? It's obviously the end of the automotive world as we know it. First the Tucker, then the Yugo, now this!
Harry P. Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Maybe they're temporarily halting production while they do their "once every 50 year" restyle?
mnwildpunk Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Oh the humanity I feel just sick over the lose of this iconic car lol
Lunajammer Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Come on guys, don't you secretly (or boldly) wish you had a new old grocery getter like that?
ZTony8 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 And to think the Hindustan's technology is newer than an original VW Beetle.
slusher Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 How will we ever go on? It's obviously the end of the automotive world as we know it. First the Tucker, then the Yugo, now this! I don't think Tucker and Yugo should be in the same sentence.. The Yugo was pretty lame
Fabrux Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Funny, I just watched the Top Gear episiode where the Hindustan Ambassador was crowned Top Taxi...
Harry P. Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 now that Checker is gone, what's left? Exactly what I was thinking! That thing is India's "Checker."
