MsDano85gt Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) The Dually vam is going to be root beer brown, going to have swing out side doors instead of traditional slider door on the mpc 1/25 vans, swing doors are constructed from the front doors of a 3rd scrap van body, the fender flares for dualy conversion are from a 56 ford flareside p/u box from the parts bin the passenger side had to have a notch made into it to allow door to open, 2nd glue bomb van now in primer (still needs body work) will be the orange color laquer, and will have the keep on truckin van murals on its sides i opened the passenger front door and slider door on the 2nd van all comments welcome will update as often as i can with progression Edited February 1, 2015 by MsDano85gt
Evilbenny Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I had a similar idea but it looks like you beat me to it again, Danny. Cool project. I look forward to seeing this one complete. Keep us updated.
Tom Geiger Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 A few ideas... The fender flares could be sectioned in the middle to take a bit of length out to allow for the side door swing, and also for better alignment at the rear. Another idea would be to do a gullwing or hatch style side door that swings up so you wouldn't have fender clearance issues. I'd also spend some time stripping the body better as all those marks could show later. Cool project, I was always a fan of the custom van era!
Danno Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Good suggestions, Tom. I think the fenders extend too far to the rear, too. But that could just be me. Interesting project, Dan.

Tom I will search around and see if theres a pic of before i started with these 2 ruffigan vans, most folks woulda tossed up hands and been in the wanted section looking for van bodies these gluebombs were that bad i lost cound of how many layers of paint there were i've used 3 different methods and that all i could get down to, tried purple power, tried bleach white, and brake fluid to no dismay this is all the farther i go on stripping after the putty goes on and gets smoothed and sanded i'll be throwing down the primer and see how bad it looks..... as long as its barely noticeable i'mm rolling with it, i'm just going for my satisfaction i'm not a complete perfectionist
MsDano85gt Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Good suggestions, Tom. I think the fenders extend too far to the rear, too. But that could just be me. Interesting project, Dan. the fenders do slightly hang over in the back i'm going to somehow incorporate some sort of styrene panel to "blend" the fenders together and into the van and smoothe things together debating custom rear tail lamps or not....... it is after all a "custom" van I decided via help of the ford forums community that the van will have a slight lift not too much, tho
MsDano85gt Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 other option mite be to "clip" off the very back very small section hanging off the back, and simply putty, or add a small pc. of styrene and blend the fender lines to match the back edge of the van and the lines..... Hmmmm naw ya'll got me thinking again here we Gooooooo
MsDano85gt Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 added that pc of styrene to flush up the rear with the back of the dually fenders that actually works well will get pic asap doing some filler and sanding as well
Belugawrx Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Dude those 'Keep on Truckin'' decals ROCK!!! Cool start Cheers
MsDano85gt Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 Dude those 'Keep on Truckin'' decals ROCK!!! Cool start Cheers I will have to shorten them up a bit i dunno what kit those decals belong to , but they will look awsome on the van make a mural sides
MsDano85gt Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Brown "dually van" will need some sanding to try and flatten out the paint surface to try one more time to achieve a "smooth" paint-job, I ended up with some wrinkles and you can see some of the old paint as well..... the brown is very suiting though i have some decals on the way to test out and see what i can come up with for this wicked van also painted the slider door just in case i end up not liking the swing out side by side doors.....
MsDano85gt Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 need to hand paint the fender flares black, clear cote over the decals...... and start fabricating the van roll cage and start on the engine/ chassis
Pim Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 With a 427 and roll cage if really will be a supervan nice work mate!!!!
disabled modeler Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I have always liked the 70s custom vans even owned one a Dodge once....Hinging the doors has always been a issue for me on these. Looks pretty cool.
