kilrathy10 Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) Finally....A proper update.....I've been busier than usual these days, but I've finally been able to get some work done on this thing.....I messed around and lost the front wheel retainer pins, the rear axles AND the clear cab piece......Even after I told myself to put those back in the box or you're gonna lose them.....Well, I either didn't listen to myself, or I put them in such a safe place, even I can't find them..... Sucks getting old, guys.....Anyway it forced me to have to go to Hobby Lobby and get another one.....Now I have a donor kit to trade or something....We'll see.....Anyway, here goes.... I really wanted to display it with my people in the truck, but my driver guy is too tall for it....I'm gonna have to leave him out.....And I didn't detail the dash much.....I can't even see it on the last one I built, so.... Petetrucker07 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) Its lookin good JT. I hate it when i misplace parts. Thats life. I saw a truck just like this, minus the drom, sittin on a lot the other day. Looked like it could have been a twin to it. Ill try to get a pic next time im in that area. Like i said its lookin good, tanks look great. Looks like an 80s allied truck for sure. Edited August 18, 2014 by Petetrucker07
Tesla Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Glad to see your back on this build...it's looking real nice! Lost or misplaced parts? I can relate to that
tbill Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 all is right in the world again, JT is back in orange! JT, looking good man, coming together nice. I gotta ask, what did you use for the tanks/lower cab/drom roof? looks like chrome [and looks great], is that alclad, krylon chrome, or something else all together?
kilrathy10 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) Shot from the can, Tom, it's Krylon's Premium Silver Foil Metallic....I used it for the wheels, too.......Comes in a tall skinny can, and I pick them up at Hobby Lobby for about $3.50 with a 40% off from the phone....They also have the wide spray nozzles they use on the Duplicolor type spray paints.......This stuff is AWESOME.....The only drawbacks are that you can NEVER touch it after you lay it down; and you can't clear coat it with anything.....I've tried almost everything that I can think of....Well not if don't want to have finger prints all over it, but shines like new money.....I like it because it's one step...You don't have to be an expert.....Just make sure there's no mold release agent on the plastic....It bubbles up if you don't .......But the greatest thing is that there is NO cleanup.....I don't think Alclad can beat the shine..... That looks great! I just purchased a can of Krylon chrome from Michael's...I'll be purchasing a can of this also. Thanks JT
signguy2108 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Looking good J.T. and in your favorite color too!
slusher Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Looks great JT, glad to see you back on this project...
Kostas Parchas Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Glad to see that orange again. The Freightsaker looks allready nice, so keep it coming. Kostas.
kilrathy10 Posted August 27, 2014 Author Posted August 27, 2014 Almost done.....I'm just about done with the tractor, and I've started with the trailer.....I'm not sure I like how it turned out with the drom on the back, but I'm hoping it will all come together after the trailer is attached....
Tesla Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 The drom came out great and looks right at home on the Freightshaker
Superpeterbilt Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Well it looks good to me man. This is one of the better FL coes that Ive seen. I like the drom.
slusher Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Looking really awesome JT... Edited August 28, 2014 by slusher
BigBad Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Hum... Something's missing JT. The JT signature toolboxes! It's not a JT unless there are toolboxes hanging on the sides of the frame! Hahaha! But honestly, I like this and what I notice from most, if not all your builds is that your trucks look "husky" with all the equipment you install on them. They just look "right".
Mopar - D Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 JT this is coming along very nicely looking forward to see it at the next model show.
kilrathy10 Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 Thanks guys for all the great comments and feedback, first of all.....Lol....Robert, the thought DID cross my mind....."I think I need a couple of mini tool boxes stuck in there..." And with that, I think I'm gonna get to work....Thanks for the "subtle" suggestion.....I'm on it.....
kilrathy10 Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Trailer is coming along.....I still have to paint the diamond plate areas I added to the wheel wells and the landing gear plates, but it is almost complete....Got quite a bit of touch up to do, as well....These things are hard to put together if you paint the parts, first, before you assemble....You gotta scrape the paint in just the right spots or there's trouble....I don't know how you guys do it....I'm going back to the "assemble first, then mask the mess out of it" method..... I think this will be the last update on this one.....The next time you see any more, it will be "under glass" ..... Thanks everyone for the continued interest..... Petetrucker07 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Looks good JT. Im sure itll come out just fine. Truck and trailer both look great so far and will look right at home in your sea of orange
truckabilly Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I prefer "paint first then assemble" method because I am scared to fit the different color in the right spot afterwards. My hands don“t shake too much but I am getting nervous anyway. And yes, I have to scrape the color off the spots where a glue is supposed to go. Some guys apply a piece of adhesive tape to the joint areas prior painting. After the color has dried they strip the tape off and they have clean spot for applying the glue. I have never done that but I should try some day. By the way, great build, JT. I like that. Your initials and mine are sort of the same. So, there goes a greeting from JT to JT. Jarda Tulacek
kilrathy10 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Ok...I lied....THIS will be the last update until "Under Glass"......I've got it almost done....A little touch up and some of Jerry's beautiful decals and I'm done.....I was taken aback when I removed the masking tape on this one.....It came out just about how I envisioned it in my mind when I was contemplating this build.....I really enjoyed this one....It's taking me a little longer than most builds, but I kinda like this one.....As I said, this is the last update till I apply the decals and clean it up a little.....Thank you guys for all your comments and suggestions on this one......
k100 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Very nice , you got to love those cab over's .
