wayne swayze Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 From the 1990 vault...AMT '49 Merc with a '87 T-Bird nose, a '77 Camaro roof and rear glass and scratch-built rear deck, taillight and lower pan. The car was sectioned a scale 3" and the wheel covers are buttons. The interior has a '77 Camaro dash, '63 Lincoln steering wheel and a "car phone" (Ever see those?. haha) The interior is also upholstered using suede and velour powder. Colour is a custom mix resulting in Salmon to match the suede. Wipers are hidden in boxes in front of the windows and the washer fluid lines go to the nozzles on the hood. Thanks for looking.
DeeCee Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Some bits work for me, some don't, that is down to personal opinion, but i think you have done a great job on making everything fit and flow, Some very creative work going on here, i like you style, and balls on chopping up a very nice model to start with.
PappyD340 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Pretty COOL and creative indeed, excellent job on making all those different kit parts work together!
om617 Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Creative and odd in a good way. Now it would be cool to see the taillights light up,cool design.
Danno Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Very unusual and creative design. The front 'works' better than the rear, IMHO, but there's no doubting the work that went into it. Any interior pix?
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Without doubt the most heavily modified '49 Merc I've ever seen. Nice craftsmanship marrying all those disparate elements.
Jantrix Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I remember seeing that one in SAE back in the day and I was very inspired by the work. Thanks for posting it up.
wayne swayze Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Thanks for your input guys. I've been finally getting photos of my old builds, so just thought I'd share them with you. A lot of the work is pretty dated, but then, so am I.(haha). Still LOVE building models after all these years, although I doubt that my current work will be nearly as good as before. But I think...keep it diverse, do your best, but mostly....HAVE FUN!!!
Maxicoop Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 this is what modeling is all about ......... you customize a car and it doesn't cost you your life savings ....... if you're having fun then it's all good .......fabulous work on the Merc ......
wayne swayze Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Thank you all for your great comments! Greatly appreciated!
JustAnotherBuilder Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Great finish with all that custom work!!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I have one of the SAE issues with this in there.. Looks great still!
rustybill1960 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Hey Wayne, That is some very smooth body work, How did You do it? Putty, plastic, what? I am in awe of Your work here! Outstanding!! I really like the way the body lines flow Very nice work Thank You for sharing Later Russ
wayne swayze Posted August 18, 2015 Author Posted August 18, 2015 Thanks for the compliments guys. There was a ton of modifications with this one, lots of cutting, filing and sanding. I used Tamiya putty which I let thoroughly dry after each coat. I'm pleased that after 25 or so years, it has no signs of cracking . The photo submitted yesterday shows the Charlie Smith drawing from a '87 Hot Rod magazine that inspired me to attempt this build. It took about 2 years to build (weekends only), and was entered into a few shows in 1990/1991.
bobthehobbyguy Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Nicely done. Very nice work. Tremendous job on the body work that you had no skrinkage problems.
Cpt Tuttle Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Reminds me a little bit of something that could be a modern interpretion of a Saab 96, at least the rear parts.
Kustom Steve Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I remember seeing this model in Scale Auto, Glad to see it still around.
