Thatswhatshesaid Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 The real crime here is calling it food. Anybody remember the McDonalds story from a year or two ago about the pink meat paste stuff they were using?
Harry P. Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I prefer Wendy's over McDonalds. There burger taste like actual beef instead of the flavored-cardboard at Mickey's D.. Not to mention their chicken nuggets, which are from China, or so I've heard... Obviously you didn't read the previous posts. No Chinese imported meat or chicken in US McDonalds locations. The real crime here is calling it food. Anybody remember the McDonalds story from a year or two ago about the pink meat paste stuff they were using? Click on the link in post #23..
Custom Hearse Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Here's a shocker for you Harry... "Dragon TV said on Sunday that Husi (the company who supplied the tainted beef), owned by OSI Group of Aurora, Ill., repackaged stale beef and chicken and put new expiration dates on them. It said they were sold to McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants." this was copied from the story below... http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/07/21/mcdonalds-kfc-china-scandal/12929885/ Edited July 23, 2014 by Custom Hearse
Rob Hall Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Consumer Reports ranked McDonald's Hamburgers as the worst. Not their opinion of the quality of the product. I never said I'm a big fan of the food at McD... in fact, the only thing I ever get there is my morning coffee. But all these silly rumors about cow eyes and pink slime, etc., are just that–silly rumors. IMO, McD on the whole does it right. I don't buy their products (aside from their coffee), so I'm not some sort of cheerleader for them. I just think it's weird how so many people insist on believing in all of these stupid urban legends regarding McD, when there is absolutely no truth to them, and no facts to back them up.
Custom Hearse Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Sold to McD, KFC, and Pizza Huts in China. Yup. I just won't eat at McD's ever. The drinks taste watered down, I could add oil to the crankcase of my car by sqeezing a few french fries, and there is just something about the burgers that's neither here nor there. I don't expect anyone to stop eating there because of what I say, this is just my opinion. I do love Pizza hut( a greasy pizza is so much better than a greasy fry), KFC is okay(LOVE their coleslaw). So Harry... How much stock do you own in McD's?

Did the Chinese put a gun to the CEO's head and make them do it ?The America that everyone wants to reminisce about and wish would come back is gone. It will never be what it was. This is good in some ways, bad in others. Adapt or die.Look at that, someone that understands we are living in 2014 Edited July 23, 2014 by martinfan5

I apologize Harry, I was just kidding you about owning stock in McDonalds. I did read what you posted, and I was NOT posting false rumors. I was quoting reliable news sources. I never once said myself, that the Chinese meat was being sent here, or that McDonalds, KFC, OR Pizza Hut was poisoning America. I also posted that I am NOT a fan of McDonalds, and stated my reason. That is my OPINION, and I have a right to express it. And I also said, and I quote myself: "I don't expect anyone to stop eating there because of what I say, this is just my opinion..." I was not trying to FORCE anyone to do what I say!!! Enjoy your coffee, and have a nice day.

When I realized my mistake I edited my post, but not before you read it. My mistake. You have nothing to apologize for, it was me that was wrong.
southpier Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 the turkey chop suey at McDonald's franchise Harry owns was contaminated?
High octane Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Don't stop now Joe, you're on a roll. LOL!
Harry P. Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I wish I owned a McD franchise! I'd be $et for life..
Quick GMC Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 The pink slime stuff they make the chicken nuggets out of that they made a big deal of on the news is nothing out of the ordinary. How did you think mass produced chicken nuggets would look like? People don't know what goes on to make our food, then the news sensationalizes something and everybody all of sudden wants to boycott the restaurant because they're too dumb to spend 5 minutes fact checking. Same thing with Subway. the news runs a story about Subway may not be as healthy as you think. NO BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, it's fast food wrapped in lettuce and parmesan bread. McDonalds, Wendy's, BK, they are all disgusting, poor quality food, but it's delicious and I'm bound to end up at one or the other tomorrow.

How did you think mass produced chicken nuggets would look like? If you want to get enlightened, go watch the cable show "How Things Are Made". The nugget manufacture isn't alone. That's the way hot dogs are made... as well as that sea food product sold as "Sea Legs" and other names that looks like a king crab leg.. as well as crab cakes... I watched the show about crab cakes.. they catch the crabs, scoop out the big chunk of meat, then throw the rest of the crab into a grinder. Add the grindings to flour and other seasoning ingredients, and you have crab cakes. That's right, intestines, brains, and even shell. And it's considered a regional delicacy!

Anything mass produced into a patty, nugget or tube is going to be a bunch of mush funneled through a pipe and squeezed into final form. It's not pleasant to look at, but it's delicious.
Thatswhatshesaid Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I've cut fast food out of my life and feel much better. Just sayin'
10thumbs Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I'm with Jake, No Fast Food. It's junk. Junk food, why eat it? Not nutritiuos, full of corn starch, full of chemicals that make food taste like real food, overpriced and often prepared / served in a filthy environment. "Modern" food processing is not for me. Lots of folks are getting fatter by the day eating the stuff. I'll pass. Michael
charlie8575 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I think you already know the answer. It's all about the $$$. I don't think calling it "corporate greed" is totally fair. The whole point of every corporation is to maximize profit. That's why they exist! To make money... as much as they can. If that's "greed," then we are all greedy, as I'm pretty sure all of us would want to make more money than we do now. If you haven't, look up Market Basket; you'll never see a more loyal group of employees or customers anyplace, I think. Greed comes two ways. Beneficial and not beneficial. Beneficial- the now-former CEO, Arthur T. DeMoulas, made money hand-over-fist, bought merchandise for cash, paid generous dividends for a closely-held (mostly family and a perhaps one or two investors) company, and bought many of the shopping centers they're in, or simply sub-divided their stores and own most of those outright. The new stores were built with cash-on-hand. Employees only pay $60/week for medical for a family of 4, many employees have worked there for 20, 30, 40, even fifty years, and a lot of them, because of very generous pensions and 401(k)s, retire with over $1million. Even after all that, for 2014, they were offering an additional 4% off on your order, even after specials and coupons. Not beneficial- the CEO's cousin, Arthur S. DeMoulas saw green (as in envy and dollars- been going on for decades,) and wanted more dividends and more pay-out, and didn't like running a business responsibly. He managed to get everyone else to cross the non-beneficial/beneficial greed line and got his cousin fired, replacing him with two co-CEOs who were declared two of the worst CEOs in 2012 and '13 (one of them is a slash-and-burn breakup specialist, the other destroyed Radio Shack,) and now, all 25,000 employees have gone on strike or quit (no unions- protected under certain work-action laws,) and the customers have publicly boycotted Market Basket with the threat of higher prices and poor service and selection. Market Basket is one of the few places a lot of people with very little money can actually afford to buy groceries in this area. When I was in high school, my father was out-of-work or grossly under-employed from Good Friday my freshman year to one week before I graduated. Even though we didn't have a Market Basket near me, there was one near my grandmother, and we'd go take care of her grocery order, and ours, too. Without Market Basket, there would've been a few weeks we wouldn't have had much food at all. Go to most of the other supermarkets in this area, and even with many of their sales and coupons, your bill will be at least 10-15% higher. Wal-Mart's groceries, in many cases, well, the first syllable ("gross") says it all. Don't believe me? Check out the Facebook Market Basket page and read some of what you see here. There have been rallies for customers and employees- separate and together. Many local businesses- even the OTHER supermarkets, are supporting the employees, songs have been written, it's absolutely amazing what this store has inspired. https://www.facebook.com/groups/575637839146416/ What I'm going at is greed is absolutely a two-edged sword. While necessary for survival, excessive amounts of it can be destruction. In the words of MSNBC's Jim Kramer, "Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered." Charlie Larkin
mrindy77 Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 I eat venison. 2-3 deer harvested during hunting season will last us all year. Some we process into polish sausage, brats or dogs at the local butcher. I can't remember the last time I ate fast food burgers...I just stay clear of that stuff. I supplement the venison with pheasants, grouse, and wild turkey. It's not for everyone but I know where it comes from. People complain about food quality and issues in the fast food industry but rarely does anyone change their habits, most continue to complain and keep frequenting these restaurants.

Do hunters worry about the purity of the meat since the environment is pretty much poluted? I've heard those concerns. In NJ there was a restaurant that had an annual venison dinner to benefit a charity. The event got shut down over concerns that they were serving non FDA meat that there was no way of knowing it's history. I know that much of the fish and sea products we buy in markets comes from the wild and they allow it to be sold in markets and restaurants though.
Danno Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 It is just totally amazing; absolutely incredibly, impossibly, even implausibly unbelievable that the human species has survived more than six decades . . . more than 2.4 generations . . . of 'fast food' ... 'TV dinners' ... 'junk food' ... 'snack food' ... whatever derisive moniker anyone imperiously assigns to the evil-du jour commodity offered by purveyors whose industries drive our economy and employ vast hordes of humans as well as feeding - on a voluntary basis - vaster hordes of humans. However could it have happened? Just food for thought.
High octane Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 The BOTTOM line on junk food is, that a person can eat healthy food or junk food and they're still goin' to die.
