Ognib Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Nice!Did I read some time back that you now have a lathe to go with the mill?
Nitro Neil Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Holy Sh..wow.. This is unbelievable workmanship.
GTJUNIOR Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Incredible detail, Tim. Just amazes me how incredibly accurate your parts are.
Codi Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 (edited) Thank you fellas....been working away, pics coming soon hopefully. Joe, I use ScaleHardware for certain nuts and bolts. A LOT of .5mm threaded stuff that they stock that is perfect for the build. I have also used a fair amount of T2M hardware for a lot of the larger sizes that I buy from BNA of Australia. Stuff is not readily available in the USA unfortunately so you have to go half way round the world or England.Ray, yes sir. Got the lathe a couple months ago and it's become one of the best door stops I've ever had. Not that I can't / don't use it from time to time, but the mill IS far more versatile and a better investment for the money spent. If you're going to buy either or machine, step up and buy the mill first (or only) would be my advice. Having the lathe is great in certain applications but it's just not the bang for the buck that the mill is. Cheers Edited January 23, 2016 by Codi
Nytrozilla Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Thanx Brad and Tim. I was considering Scale Hardware, but wasn't aware of BNA. I'll be doing business with boh.
Randy D Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Hi Tim, What a treat to come back here after a few months and catch up with this build. You continue to amaze me with your ability to create these beautiful assemblies !!! Well done my friend. Randy
Codi Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 THERE he is......hi ya' Randy, what a nice surprise to have you visit and post on the site again. LIke everyone else, we're hopeful you'll be back on your builds and will share your progress. I've not forgotten your GT 40 build....... Today I got a quick mock-up done of the brake pieces and tomorrow I'll do the final detailing and assembly of them so I can get the struts / spindles on. Cheers I really like the way the Renshape machines and takes color. The texture was perfect for replicating carbon brakes. Thanks again Dave for the suggestion. All of these pieces were machined over the last two weeks...a bit steeper learning curve than I anticipated......
GTJUNIOR Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Just incredible, if it weren't for the tweezers and the coin in the pictures I would have sworn I was looking at the real thing. Absolutely masterful workmanship.
John Teresi Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Tim.......Beautiful......everything you make looks so real .......such a great looking build!!!!!
Nytrozilla Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 So, um, just thinkin' out loud here. Uh, kinda' wunderin' how long it might take to do 3D scans of all of your scratch built sweetness, so that we could get them printed them out?You can hate me now.........
tyrone Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) GOOD GRIEF !!!!!! that's all I can come up with.... these updates take your breath away..... Edited January 20, 2016 by tyrone
Armornv Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Hey Tim! Wonderful work as always. It's still so hard to wrap my around the fact that this is all in 25th scale. Even with the reference pics. (pennies, pencils, tweezers) So incredible man.
exesivefire Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Wow I'm going to have to play with that renshape now, that looks the part for sure!
Codi Posted January 21, 2016 Author Posted January 21, 2016 Thanks everyone. Joe, no hatin' going on here......but I won't be making copies I assure you. Sorry dude. Andy, thanks and yes, you should give it a try...........I'm thinking of future parts / builds that I can use it again. Once you try your hand at machining it, you'll be truly impressed....I promise. Got the last of the brake brackets done and now I can move onto getting the front end on this thing. The little bracket you see is actually 2 in 1. I've not cut it down the middle yet but they mirror each other. This little bracket is affixed to the spindle where it meets the strut. The brake caliper bracket (pic 2) gets bolted to it. The last pic shows all the different bits and pieces I've been machining the last several weeks......I didn't realize how many little parts that I had to fab when I started and it just snowballed from there. Sorry to ramble........here are the pics. cheers Here you kind of get the idea as to what the little brackets purpose is. Stuff..................lots of little stuff.............
Crazy Ed Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 FOR GAWDS Sake Tim, Don't Sneeze!!!!! Amazing machining.
gasser59 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 That's it. I think I'm going back to tying flies.
AZ Boy Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Tim, if this was a 1/16th build, I'd be very, VERY impressed. Being that it's in 1/24th (1/25?), I'm totally speechless on how awesome a job you've done.
Armornv Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Good grief that's a whole lotta machined goodness right there. Absolutely incredible.
Crazy Ed Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 That's it. I think I'm going back to tying flies. Sure Brad, show Tim how it's done and tie a perfect Royal Coachmen on a #32 Hook
gasser59 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Sure Brad, show Tim how it's done and tie a perfect Royal Coachmen on a #32 Hook Why such a big hook?
Crazy Ed Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Why such a big hook? Because it's be REALLY close to being a 1/25th scale Royal Coachman. So once you've done that you could work on somethin' smaller like midges to show Tim what small and detail REALLY amount to . Could you imagine how thin scale thread would be......................
Davewilly Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Nice work Tim! Cant wait to see it all assembled and on the chassis!
