Jantrix Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Like a lot of guys who build in brass and aluminum, it is a bit of a shame to paint any of the metal work. What is your plan for that?
Codi Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Brad, I've not started the steering brackets / rack yet. What you've circled is the bracket that supports the brake caliper assembly. I removed the wheels & brake caliper for purposes of mocking up the lower control arms and steering rack. The pics I posted a few pages earlier of the assembled brake caliper show it a bit better. I've got a good plan for the steering arms/brackets when I get to them that I think will mimic the L.A.M.B. version pretty well. At least for 1/25th scale. Rob, good question. I'm going to paint the brass frame eventually. However, my intent is to keep as many of the brass, aluminum and titanium components that I've fabricated in their "natural" state. I'll use purple, blue and red dychem to add some color to it where appropriate and of course some nickel and maybe even chrome plating on certain pieces. Since most of it will be bolted together, glue shouldn't be an issue when I get to final assembly. The car WILL be displayed with the engine out of the car on its own stand and the body, wheels & tires will OFF the car for display purposes. I don't want to cover up what I've spent more than 2 years making. I'll do a final mock-up after everything is painted and take pictures with the body ON the car as reference and for the judges, but the final display will be as just described. Appreciate your asking! Cheers, Tim Edited February 24, 2016 by Codi
Randy D Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Hey Tim, That puck jig is so cool, I would have never thought of that for the intricate assembly that you needed. Just awesome looking parts my friend!!! Randy
Codi Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 The additional brackets are machined and I started the mock-up process so I can get this part done. There are so many things to take into account and it has slowed me up a lot more than I anticipated. I won't have the struts/brakes on now till sometime next week I'm afraid. Here's a quick mock-up of the first of the brackets before I can move on. cheers
blackbeard Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 looking great with all those pieces mocked up
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Every update is amazing on this project. Always check this thread for updates. All of those parts are a work of art.
Codi Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Struts on, I'm not going to bother putting the brake calipers on at this time as I know they fit and are correct at this point and she sits flat on all fours. Just trying to save some time. I polished up the fuel cell and next I'll detail it a bit and make the brackets etc. to get it in the car. Then the steering rack. Thanks to each and every one of you that continues to follow along and your kind words. cheers, tim
Randy D Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Hi Tim, Got to tell you that it is so AWESOME watching as you add the parts to the chassis!!!!! Your precession engineering is just amazing. Randy
Mooneyzs Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Tim.... Man is that Looking Awesome!!! You are a true craftsman my friend. I sure hope to be able to see this in person one day. Those Struts are off the charts!! That Thank looks great polished.
John Teresi Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Tim.....this is just so BEAUTIFUL man......I love it!!!!
Nytrozilla Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 If following this build has taught me one thing, it's to have a defibrillator and oxygen standing by for updates like, well, this one for instance. When the situation arises among my fellow modelers, I like to remind folks that if it wasn't for the masters who design and manufacture the kits, we wouldn't have them to make our masterpieces. Tim, your skills belong among the designers. Now, where's that stupid, "We are not worthy", emoticon?
futurattraction Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Gorgeous work, Tim. Every bit of progress you make on this awes me. I can't get enough!
gasser59 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Great goggley moogley…that is unbelievably beautiful Tim. This thread is right up there at the top of my favorite threads and you never disappoint.
GTJUNIOR Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 WTF! Unbelievable Tim. If I didn't know this was a model I would swear I was looking at a real chassis. This model should be put on display in an art gallery alongside the great works of the masters when you are done. It's that good. Your precision and craftsmanship is right up there with the great masters. We are not worthy!!!!
Davewilly Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Great looking stuff Tim! This build never stops with the amazement not to mention the craftsmanship you are displaying.
Codi Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 Randy, don't know about "precision engineering" but I'm doing my best to fake it. Chris, I TOO look forward to the day when we finally get to meet, chat and of course, check out the builds themselves. Thanks for looking in. Appreciate it John.,.......I'm sure you'll finish 6 more builds by the time I get this one finally done.............always enjoy your builds and unusual projects. John, Scott and Brad, you're three of the most loyal followers of this thread, like Chris, I look forward to meeting each of you one day in the near future. Thanks Tony for following along, it's kinda cool that people half way round the world check out the build and comment. Glad you like it. Dave, thanks too for checking it out and commenting, I'm hopeful the rest comes along now that I believe the hardest parts are now done with the build and I should be able to click along at a faster pace now to wrap it up. When I said I had the struts done, I did/do. I did forget the strut sensors so I took the morning to make and get em' on the car. Fuel tank is something I've been looking forward to and that's next. Enjoy the pics. Cheers, Tim .
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Holy cow. What beautiful work. Makes my little plastic dragster look pretty pathetic.
Mooneyzs Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Tim.... those struy sensors are an amazing work of art. You are not missing any little details by any means nice Job and keep up the killer work.
Randy D Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Okay, I have no idea what a strut sensor is but Darn it looks really cool sittin' there in blue!!!!! Randy
