mike 51 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I've been using this amazing thing called gravity to keep the hoods on my models. Seems to work pretty well. I have "gravity" here too Chuck...but I sometimes touch/move my models and I like them to stay in one piece when I do. I've wanted a kit of this truck for decades now...and I'm kinda disappointed in this kit. While it's certainly better than nothing, I wish they'd done a better job.
mike 51 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 "Seeing this thing go through its various contortions from mockup to production has been a real eye-opener for me." Yes it was..I only wish they had someone more familar with these pickups review the kit before putting it into production. Maybe it's time to re-think doing the kits in China?
hotrod66c10 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I am kind disappointed in the quality of the kit ,sink marks, injection point marks, mold lines and egg shell texture.thought it would be allot better kit considering the amount of time it has taken to get it on the market.

Some of you guys must have been very unfortunate, my kit is absolutely spot on no real noticable flaws, a couple of very small sink marks but no more than Id expect. And the eggshell finish is a strange effect as we are so used to super smooth plastic (which we normally scuff up to paint! lol) but get a coat of primer on and its gone ?. The only thing that does bug me is the lack of hood hinges, but Ill live with it. Edited July 7, 2015 by Mr Stock
my80malibu Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Overall I like it, just small problem areas were mentioned from mine. Which can be overcome somehow, or someway.
maxwell48098 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) Well, I've opened the two '69's and two '71's that I bought. I must be really lucky as my four kits have only so very slight flaws, mainly light sink marks in the top rear corners of the bed sides. And I also dropped this cab right onto the older AMT F350 chassis, so a small flatbed or 4X4 mini-pumper using the '69 cab and '78 chassis looks like it will be on the to-do list. One simple thing that I would have liked is to have the exhaust system be mutiple pieces as I like to fully assembly the chassis and paint it as a unit. Once the rear axle is in place, getting the single piece exhaust system in there is impossible, so I cut the tailpipe off a the back side of the muffler, then glue it back together after installation. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with these kits and hope Mobius isn't discouraged to not fill out this line of Ford kits. One thing I do remember from my days as a Ford technician in the early '70's is that the 300 CID truck six had the same external dimensions as the 240. We swapped a 240 for a 300 in my buddy's '60 Ford Wagon, along with 3 Webber sidedraft carbs. That thing had torque that would burn the tires off the heavy Ford wagon. niteowl7710 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) All i have to say is, cut the hoods off the runner and sit them on the body before you presume there's no warping issue. My hood looks fine to the eye, but it's glaringly obvious when you sit it on the cab that a little bit of tweak makes the entire fit, particularly at the hood/cowl interchange off by a lot. I'm not bashing, I can fix it, I'm well practiced by my excursions into Revell US reboxed RevellAG Ferraris, just consider it information - especially helpful before you start primer/painting. As others have said there's really nothing to hold the hoods on in mock up, they don't fit INTO anything, they just lay on top of the fender. The texture isn't nearly as bad as some people have made it out to be, I was expecting a moonscape. But it is there, it just doesn't concern me, Edited July 7, 2015 by niteowl7710
Chuck Most Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I took the parts out of the box for the 71 to look them over and cannot get them back into the box. Man it is packed tight. Take the sprues out of the bags and stack them back in- try to leave enough room in a corner of the box for the cab to sit upside-down. Box should close again just fine.
my80malibu Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Curious to see how this body might fit on the the Harley Davidson pickup chassis? Well, I've opened the two '69's and two '71's that I bought. JJ Deuce Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I got both kits a few weeks ago, opened them up and then put them in my stash. All this talk about the textured finish prompted me to open them up and see for myself. I don't see an issue. It's a really fine texture and if one coat of primer doesn't cover it, I'd be shocked. I'll get started on the '69 soon. Opening the kit got my mind racing about how I want to build it.
Badluck 13 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I got 2 of each and mine are all good as far as warp/sink marks etc. and sure there are some issues with it being "correct" but in reality what kit is perfect for the most part?....speaking for myself I am just thrilled to see a new kit on the market....again just my thoughts and opinions.
Matt T. Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) I have a couple of each kit and no warpage on first look. As for the hood fit, I don't know if they fit perfectly on the 1:1s either! I am very pleased to have these kits and look forward to more in the Moebius Ford Pickups line! Edited July 8, 2015 by Matt T.

mk11 Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 It's plain that to those who know these trucks there are disappointments and corrections that will need to be made for the accuracy some want. Moebius may or may not want to revisit this to make running changes. Until then, maybe it would be a better idea for you to sell or trade this present kit, Roger, like you did the meng F350 if it sends you into such a tailspin of despair... mike

Moebius may or may not want to revisit this to make running changes. mike Yeah, it's obvious that only some people care about accuracy and engineering on a new kit. The rest are enamoured by the pretty colors on the instruction sheets I guess. Ever since Moebius has hit the scene, everyone has been singing their praises about how accurate and well engineered their kits are, blah, blah, blah. But, when I opened this kit, it proved them all wrong. I've built this kit. So, I know a little something about it. Have you built one yet?
Chuck Kourouklis Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Watch out now, Mr H. Pretty soon you're apt to hear allegations of "playing the victim" (which we all know is code for "not taking their garbage quietly"). Hear tell from a fellow scribe who emailed that the grainy finish was as much a surprise to Moebius as it's been to any of us, fwiw. Far as the slidey hoods go (and they do get to flyin' when the cab ain't perfectly level), I'm thinkin' scratch up a tab, make it look like a hinge latch, position it on the underside of the hood so it butts up against the core support, m'self. Cowl edge of the firewall holds the hood laterally, so it's the forward slack that needs checking.
mike 51 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 (edited) The 69 F100 will definitely be the last Moebius product I buy on "faith". From misleading packaging to what looks like an incomplete product in the box, I no longer trust them. That IS the good thing about this site..you can usually see pics of the products (from consumers) before making a purchase. Lesson learned.... Edited July 9, 2015 by mike 51
Guest Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Watch out now, Mr H. Pretty soon you're apt to hear allegations of "playing the victim" (which we all know is code for "not taking their garbage quietly"). No worries on that front Chuck. People will say and think what they will. I never concern myself with either. It's just my opinion that the people who do want and or expect an accurate kit made in 2015 (crazy as that seems) deserve to know the truth. At least they will know what to expect if they choose to buy it. Had I been better informed (instead of believing all of the rah rah's), I would have made a different choice on my visit to the hobby shop. But, I wasn't and I didn't. One positive out of my first Moebius kit experience is that I now have a whole new appreciation for a Revell kit.
mk11 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Yeah, it's obvious that only some people care... I opened... I've built... I know... I... I... Get over yourself. No one is denying your right to an opinion on this kit; that's what this forum is for. Fwiw, I did build a test shot last fall. Having owned about ten of these trucks, I see everything you've seen, from the funky diff to the dash pad and am just as disappointed as you in certain aspects of the final turnout. I take back none of my previous comments praising engineering fit but I'm choosing not to make the flaws into my hill 262. The scathing negativity between you and mike h contributes nothing and gets old pretty dang quick. mike
Cool Hand Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I've built this kit. So, I know a little something about it. Any chance you could share/show some pics Roger.
von Zipper Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 It's plain that to those who know these trucks there are disappointments and corrections that will need to be made for the accuracy some want. mike Ain't that the truth. But I'm very happy that this generation of Ford trucks has finally been made in 1/25 scale. Bravo to Moebius for undertaking this project . This kit is a mixed bag for me. It has a lot of good points and a few problems so far. My first big issue is the box art of the '69 . It shows a low end Custom Cab but the kit is clearly more to the trim level of a Ranger Sport . If it was a low trim Custom Cab it would not have the rocker panel trim or the chrome trim down the 'bump' -sure it can be sanded off . So far I have about 8 hours into a '69 kit, 2 of those hours have been spent cold bending the hood and sanding the edges to make it sit square to the fenders and fix the firewall/cowl , also filled the gap around the firewall . The chassis was very nice & easy to assemble partially due to the excellent instructions . I think a few pictures will show it better than words= This is the look I'm going for with this '69 I pre ordered 2-1969s and 2-1971s on April 7th 2015 , After I got the kits and have been reading the pros and cons....... And actually started building one I got another '69 and another '71 for a total of 6 so far . I'm very happy with my purchase so far and still like Moebius kits . (HEY-Why does the red line show under the word Moebius like it's spelled wrong ? )
niteowl7710 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I suspect it's because it's not a real world. The one like in the infamous strip is Möbius.
Brett Barrow Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Moebius is an accepted alternate spelling of Möbius without the umlaut. A bit OT, but I've heard the story that Moebius was originally supposed to be called Altaira Models, after the character in Forbidden Planet because it is very similar to "Aurora" but it had already been trademarked (or some other reason) so they went with her last name, Morbius, but modified to the less morbid-sounding "Moebius". I can't remember if I heard that from someone at Moebius or from somewhere else so take from it what you will, I just thought it was interesting. Edited July 11, 2015 by Brett Barrow
niteowl7710 Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) There are also several businesses that use the umlaut spelled version. So those trademarks were already taken. Edited July 12, 2015 by niteowl7710
Matt T. Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) Von Zipper, that's looking really good! Edited July 12, 2015 by Matt T.
