Kit Basher Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Toss up with the smell just after a passing of a thundershower after a day of making that freshly plowed ground! I agree! Edited August 27, 2014 by Kit Basher
disabled modeler Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 For me it would have to be these.... From my days of running my own shop and racing... Alcohol fuel and it coming from the exhaust new tires burning tires from a car doing a burnout fresh paint on a car My days now... fresh plastic
1972coronet Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Zymol wax does emit a pleasant odour ! And , it's easy to work with , too . Ethyl Racing Gas definitely has a sweet odour to it . Too bad that the majority of our younger bretheran hasn't been exposed to that sweet smell . Heck , even in its exhaust state ,it's still sweet ! Wood . While I'm not hip to the different kinds of woods (by smell at least ... except the unmistakable odour of Pine , and Eucalyptis [sp] ! ) , I do in general love the smell of old wood . My paternal grandfather's old work shop was full of different types of woods ( in addition to other surplus construction materials ) , which were leftovers from his construction business . He retired in 1958 ; by the time I was perusing his old work areas , that wood had been sitting for 15+ years . Old Chrysler Interiors have an unmistakable scent . That scent brings me back to my childhood ; back to my parents' family car , the 1969 Dart 'Custom' . 2-Cycle Exhaust . I can still see all of those killer , 2-Tone era Vespa scooters at school back in the mid-80's . Pre-2007 Carburetor and Brake Cleaner . The years just before that stupid Final Solutions Act which set unrealistic VOC standards . You folks whom reside outside of California are lucky that you can still purchase carburetor and brake cleaners that actully work ! Old AMT and MPC kits have a comforting odour to them . Organic Brake Pads / Friction Materials have a pleasant scent . I enjoy their smell while I'm working . Tamiya "Orange" and "Green" cements . Their odours take me back to my teens when I discovered them ; a great time in my life . American Spirit "Pow Wow Blend Tabacco . Even non-smokers like the smell of that cut of tabacco ! It has a nice Spearmint smell , even when it's burning .
Pete J. Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 So Why has no one mentioned the smell of a new car with a leather interior! Leather has scent all of it's own.
rel14 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 model GLUE.. reminds me of the 60,s . woodstock , lol
unclescott58 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 This is one of the dumbest ideas for a posting ever. But, I like it. It's fun reading these. And so many I agree with. Scott
Draggon Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 In my shop, 90 weight gear lube, especially when its really hot. In my women, Ciara perfume, especially when they're.....oh nevermind.
Badluck 13 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 ...The smell of fresh rain on asphalt on a hot summers day......or old farm tractors cooling off after a run....
FordRodnKustom Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Simonize car wax. Takes me back my Grampa's garage in Maspeth Qeens while I was "helping" wax his '56 Buick Special...around 1961.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The title of this thread is ... well .... weird ? Maybe aromas? 'jus sayin'
chunkypeanutbutter Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 1990s and earlier Audi interiors with leather seats get this unique smell.
Brett Barrow Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Simonize car wax. Takes me back my Grampa's garage in Maspeth Qeens while I was "helping" wax his '56 Buick Special...around 1961. The smell of paste wax makes me think of my grandpa, too. As does shoe polish... "A can of Simoniz!"
grayghost Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I love the smell of napalm in the morning... I love that movie. Smells like victory.
JunkPile Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) Who farted? Oh hell that was me Edited August 29, 2014 by JunkPile
clovis Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 One of my favorite smells is fresh cut hay. Now if we are talking about smells that you would never mention to anyone else, especially your friends, mostly because they would think that you are a freak from outer space and high on crack... I love the smell of a post war Lionel steam engine. I'm sure it is the oil, mixed in with 60 year old steel, but I love that smell.
