Snake45 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) I think Bob Dylan may be the one artist that the most other artists have covered and have had hits doing his songs. The Byrds practically based their whole career (at least in the beginning) on Dylan covers. Well, I meant specifically that other people made the songs famous and Dylan didn't--like "Watchtower." Things where to this day a lot of people know the song but don't know Dylan wrote it. You can still shock people when you ask them who wrote Patsy Cline's "Crazy" or Linda Rondstadt's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" or Three Dog Night's "Joy to the World" or Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." Snake45 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 The Who. Can't Explain. Speaking of covers, you prolly won't believe this but the first time I ever heard that song was on David Bowie's cover album Pinups. And it wasn't until several years later that I heard the Who's original.
Snake45 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 "Well, I never thought I'd make it here in Hollywood. I never thought I'd ever want to stay".... I don't know it, Harry, but it reminds me of one of my favorite Warren Zevon lyrics: Well, they say this place is evil But that ain't why I stay 'Cause I found something That will never be nothing And I found it in L.A.
Harry P. Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Well, I meant specifically that other people made the songs famous and Dylan didn't--like "Watchtower." Exactly. I was agreeing with you!
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 One of the best female voices out there today. You and me We used to be together Every day together, always I really feel like I'm losing my best friend I can't believe this could be the end It looks as though you're letting go And if it's true then I don't want to know

JollySipper Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 "Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete... again"... "EvenFlow" by Harry's favorite band, Pearl Jam!!
JollySipper Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 "You can't even sing or play an instrument, so you just scream instead".........
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 This one is No Doubt's "Don't Speak"....... Good thing somebody else around here has heard it
Snake45 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Good thing somebody else around here has heard it Heard it a bazillion times, but for some reason reading the lyrics didn't ring any bells for me. Ain't that weird! I'm watching her on The Voice this season. She is not at all what I expected. But then, almost nobody on there has been the way I expected them to be at the beginning.
Snake45 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 "You can't even sing or play an instrument, so you just scream instead"......... I don't know it, but it's kinda close to a spoken line from another song with this lyric. Bonus cookie for the writer of this song as well as performer: Famous hair, bulging eyes, lips so thick Are you woman, are you man? I'm your biggest funked-up fan So rock me and roll me till I'm sick.
Guest Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 We had a dream, we'd go travelin' together, We'd spread a little lovin' then we'd keep movin' on. Somethin' always happens whenever we're together We get a happy feelin' when we're singing a song.

Harry P. Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 "EvenFlow" by Harry's favorite band, Pearl Jam!! Well, not my favorite band. But definitely in my top 10. For me, the Beatles come first. Above and beyond all others. After that it gets very hard to rank them. Impossible, actually. My top 10 other than the Beatles ( in no particular order because there's no way I could put them in any order)... Springsteen. Rolling Stones. Led Zeppelin. Byrds. REM. Fleetwood Mac. Pearl Jam. Pink Floyd. Hendrix. Eagles. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Ok, I know that's technically 11.

Led Zeppelin. Byrds. REM. Fleetwood Mac. Pearl Jam. Pink Floyd. Hendrix. Eagles. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Ok, I know that's technically 11. Not a bad list at all. We could make it on a long road trip together. My top ten would be: Warren Zevon Tom Petty Hendrix Springsteen Heart Stevie Nicks Meat Loaf Mott the Hoople The last two places would be a rotation of ZZ Top, Steppenwolf, Mountain, Johnny & Edgar Winter, Gaga, Montgomery Gentry, David Bowie, and maybe a few more, depending on my mood of the day....
JollySipper Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 You like some good music, Harry! I like the Beatles a lot, but their later stuff, after they quit with the "pop" songs and started delving deeper into more complex stuff. "A Day in the Life" is probably my favorite by them..... Some more lyrics! "By the time you hear the sirens, it's already too late, One's in the morgue and the other in jail, One got twisted and the other's a waste".........
Snake45 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 "By the time you hear the sirens, it's already too late, One's in the morgue and the other in jail, One got twisted and the other's a waste"......... If that's not a John Hiatt lyric, it should be!

Thatswhatshesaid Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Not a lyric but some trivia. Can anyone name the artist that sang one of the versions of the theme song to Who's The Boss?
