tbill
I have a plan for that KW. And that hood is not part of it, and it will definitely be gettin a different stance. What should i be ready for once i get the parts and styrene flyin. i had issues with hood fit/hinging. i also went for the seamless look on the sleeper, but it's like 5 parts, so i spent a ton of time sanding/putty/sanding/putty/sanding for what seemed like forever. also from what i understand, half of the frame/suspension is wrong versus what is on the real truck. and i guess nothing really fit too well. i have a thread somewhere on here of my build of it, did it with a tanker......double whammy..... Petetrucker07
I started that tanker. Pretty much gave up the ghost. I might use it ss a donor for PVC tanker. Tom, your red KW i remember. Ill dig through the posts and look it over
Petetrucker07
Is AMT serious! Leaf over walking beam on an early 90s highway tractor? Ill switching it out for an 8 bag set up, like it should be.

Petetrucker07
Way ahead of ya Sean. Really all i want from the kit is the cab and sleeper.
Old Buckaroo
I could put the frame and running gear to use if you have no need for them.

Petetrucker07
Just scored an AMT pete wrecker from my LHS for a very reasonable price. This will be a nice addition to my wreck fleet, as soon as i get started on them, someday.

Petetrucker07
Im not sure. Where can i can tell which it is. It doesnt have a copyright year anywhere Its got a NTC 350 Looks like #8126 is the box number Edited October 25, 2014 by Petetrucker07
Jim B
If the cab looks like the California Hauler cab (square doors, small windshield) it's the Unilite cab. Rounded doors & larger windshield (like the other AMT Peterbilt 359 kit) it's the 1100-Series cab.
Petetrucker07
Its definitely the later. It has new door handles on it
Superpeterbilt
Cool. Keep in mind that the wrecker body is too wide. Youll need to remove .250 from the width for it to fit the axles better. Ben Wicker has a resin PTO also. AMT has the winches working by imagination instead of chain drive or hydraulic lines . I have some reference photos of this type of wrecker whenever you get around to building it.
Petetrucker07
Thanks Terry. I seen it sittin on the shelf for 40 bucks, i couldnt say no. I seen the price and didnt think twice about it and grabbed it.
Superpeterbilt
Thanks Terry. I seen it sittin on the shelf for 40 bucks, i couldnt say no. I seen the price and didnt think twice about it and grabbed it. Its not a bad kit, and thats not a bad price. This was the first kit I built when I got back into modeling years ago. I built the Pete into a tractor and put the wrecker body on a Watkins KW.The Pete has been rebuilt many times, as has the KW. The KW is waiting to be turned into the Tyrone Malone Boss truck like the one Alan built. The Pete is awaiting another rebuild. I might put the revell chrome dump body on it. Petetrucker07
They had the KW dump truck there, price was a bit steep for me. They also had a few 378 long haulers, price was more than ebay. My LHS is all over on prices, some really good, some way over. I think im gonna do my whole wrecker fleet similar paint schemes and colors. Superpeterbilt
Ive done all of mine in variations of the box art. I even plan on doing my first Revell tri axle 359 rotator in the original Amt box art. Powder blue & white w/ red pinstriping. I definitley prefer the classic paint jobs. Some modern wreckers are a little ridiculous. But, Ive been accused of being old fashioned.

Superpeterbilt
This is not a kit, but still a modeling related score. Its a model mag from 1973 with an article about the IH transtar and an article on how to detail a Diamond Reo. There is lots of cool info in the Reo article from making the front steerable to using speaker screen as an exhaust shield. I will get around to scanning the pages and posting them.
