Your pictures of those old Strombecker slot cars brings back a lot of memories . . . looks like you've got alot of work ahead of you !

That tool is for pulling the pinion gears off of the motors .

That tool is a makeshift pinion gear press, not sure exactly what motor it was made for. For can type motors like the orange one in that sidewinder, they look like this:

That gear puller was pretty universal--it works on pressed-on pinion gears.
