slusher Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I had the regular upright stereo until about 1996 now I have a very small table stereo with cd-radio and it plays music from flash drives. it will also rip cds. I have no cassettes any more. I have 3000 songs in my computer and 250 to 300 cds I have bought since I started collecting in 1990. I still have the first cd I ever bought. With my mp3 player and a compact stereo, that's about all I need.
spotarama Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 one of my other hobbies is DJ'ing and occasionally filling in on the local public broadcaster radio station so i mostly just play proper records and at home i have a full DJ set up, twin turntables, mixing desk, 400w amp and PA speakers capable of handling 300w per side ( i got sick of blowing up normal peoples speakers )it's just past seriously loud and i've never been able to crank the amp and main feed off the mixer past half, after that it just gets painfuloh and what do i actually play....mostly punk but a whole load of 60s, 50s, metal, anything that goes well with beer really
JTalmage Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 At work I have some Altec Lansing computer speaks w/ some sort of bass boost called Phantom Bass. They're pretty cool. I get in trouble a lot for the volume. haha At home, since I'm slowing going up the technology chain... I have a sweet Samsung sound bar w/ bluetooth. So I can synch my phone (Galaxy S4) with about 2200 songs on my SD card, and play until I'm content. Of course there's always youtube which will play thru the sound bar from my phone.. and I also have my Sony PS3, which I can do youtube on as well... but requires more interaction. The garage has a neat little 40 dollar Logitech 2 speaker and subwoofer setup I bought from walmart that plugs in w/ a 3.5mm audio cable to my phone... again, with 2200 songs or youtube. Or, I can plug it into the headphone jack of the radio out there and enhance the sound of the radio. It's pretty neat. Then of course I have all this stuff... But if we're also talking about my own terrible music... I've got this stuff too.. That green amp head is 175 watts of LOUD. I dont have pictures of my other cabinet and head, and my little practice amp I got w/ a strat recently for free.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 I can't really play guitar. I just jam sometimes, and the only song I can play is Bad Blood by Neil Sedaka. We just got a nice Carvin amp from a friend. It's not this one, but it's just like it.
JTalmage Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) I'm not that great either. I've learned bits and pieces of things but not whole songs. I've got all this gear cheap or free so I said why not? haha Edited October 6, 2014 by JTalmage
1972coronet Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Dionne Warwick is my favorite Music Medium > Good one !
JTalmage Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 That's a lot O' vinyl Jesse! Thanks! Inherited about half of it... Bought the rest. LOL The collection has grown since this picture... That box w/ the Sam Kinison record up front has turned into 2 milk crates. Already full. I've cooled off on my vinyl buying for the time being.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 I've got a reasonable box of vinyl. I think last time I checked I had about 100 albums.
Thatswhatshesaid Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 When im in my car or the big truck, i listen to sirius/xm, or my iphone. I havent listened to terestial radio in 10 years. I cant imagine how much of an hour is commercials, it was too much 10 years ago, its probably out of control now, just a guess. On the road I listen to satellite radio. At home, usually computer. The local alternative station just started the 'two minute promise'. No more than 2 minutes of commercials at a time. But they spend probably 10 minutes an hour talking about it. I'd say it's a wash.
Lucas van H Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I usually use the free version of Spotify, only downside is that it only offers 10 hours a month of free listening. If i'm not using Spotify, I listen to music on youtube or online radio. In my '01 Carisma I usually listen to cd's since I haven't got a SD or USB port (next upgrade that I'm gonna buy... Changing cd's in traffic isn't the brightest thing to do ) I still need to upgrade the speakers in the back, still the old paper conus. No subwoofer or whatever most people of my age put in their cars... Lucas.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Subwoofers are never getting anywhere near our truck
spotarama Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I've got a reasonable box of vinyl. I think last time I checked I had about 100 albums.to go with the above mentioned system, i've got about 2000 albums and somewhere over 4000 45's (and a couple of hundred CD's but we don't talk about them), theres even a box of cassettes out there somewhere in case i ever buy another 70s car
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I get tapes because I have a good deck and they're cheap at Goodwill.
Tom Geiger Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Dionne Warwick is my favorite Music Medium > I've watched the show "The Long Island Medium".... but she looks more like a "Large" to me!
Tom Geiger Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I need to dig out all my stereo equipment, and either set it up or see that it gets to people who would appreciate it. My father's hobby was audio and he always had a big stereo and some of the best equipment. He always saved the original boxes (especially since he was military and we moved every few years) and when he bought something better, the old one went back in it's box. I don't think he ever got rid of anything. He's no longer around so I have it all today... I have at least two reel to reels, a bunch of receivers, speaker sets and turn tables... era 1960s to 1970s.
Petetrucker07 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Thats a good era for stereo equipment. Heavier the better.
webestang Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 My main listening device......... Just rebuilt this one awhile ago for vinyl to computer......... I also use cassette tapes still.....although high bias tapes are no longer made. I just bought a Sandisk MP3 player for my vinyl LP to dig songs for the car (I record to wav then convert to MP3).
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 With stereos, old school is THE ONLY school.
unclescott58 Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I never though of using "mediums" to listen to music. I thought you went to them to contact the dead. Scott
