bbowser Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) I won an Amazon $50 gift card at a company party raffle and didn't know what to do with it. Perusing Amazon's limited selection of car kits I came across this. I used to build a lot of 1/72 WWI fighters so this piqued my interest. Mostly white metal parts with a basswood propeller. Upon doing a small amount of research it turns out this beast is a "rotary" not a "radial" engine, meaning the whole thing is connected to the propeller and cylinders and all spin! I can't wait to give it a try. Edited January 27, 2020 by bbowser wrong wood
DonW Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Looks like a great model, Bruce. Of course you're correct - a Rotary is quite different as you say - think NSU RO80 or various Mazda car engines. Does the model come with a miniature bottle of blackberry brandy to offset the castor oil fumes as noted on the box?

Yes! I re-visited this with brain engaged and this is indeed a rotary but as you say, Snake, it's quite different from a Wankel rotary. I'll get my coat!...

I did not know that liquor would counteract a laxative!
SfanGoch Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 If that's the case, I'm permanently immunized. Blackberries contain a high tannin (antioxidant) content which does provide relief from effects of the tropical apocalypse. Fe-Fi, Fo-Fum, Hic!
Roadrunner Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 As close as I'll likely ever get to doing a rotary anything, but I will be doing at least one (or more). WNW Fokker Dr.I
Roadrunner Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 My latest (a review kit for another site). I missed this the first go 'round, so it'll be nice to add it to my stash now.

Should be here Monday afternoon. I just read tonight that Revell is planning a brand new 1:48 Blackbird, and if true, I'll just have to snatch one.
Mike999 Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 (edited) I didn't get this today, but just looked inside the box today. And got a nice surprise. This 1/35 scale "military kit" also has decals for 2 civilian versions. It's the Thunder Models Indian 741-B motorcycle. The kit includes photo-etched wheels, foot-rests and other parts. It has a plastic "forming template" to get the convex shape of the wheels right, and clear instructions on how to use the template. My version of the kit has 2 complete motorcycles in the box. Thousands of these Indians were built for use in WWII, mostly going to the British and other Commonwealth forces. After the war they were sold cheap as surplus. Here are the 2 civilian versions. Sorry for the size but it shows off the decals better. Boy, I wish they would do this thing in a bigger scale! Edited March 8, 2020 by Mike999 goof
SfanGoch Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 That's a nice kit, Mike. Thunder Models produces some really nice stuff. BTW, kit #35004 has two Indians in the box.
SfanGoch Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 Picked this up so I can make my Italeri S-100 Schnellboot an RC runner and terrorize the model yacht racers and geese in Prospect Park Lake.

Thanks for the heads-up. Those look great. Meanwhile, reviews of this 1/35 scale kit are...positively glowing. ? ICM kit #35901, Chernobyl #1 Radiation Monitor Station. It comes with the guard shack, which is complete with cot, desk, telephone, dosimeters etc. This is the first in a series of ICM "Chernobyl" kits. Kit #35902, Chernobyl #2, will have an AC-40-137A fire truck, 4 fire-fighter figures and a diorama base with background. Chernobyl kit #3 (35903) is 5 figures of "Rubble Cleaners." And Chernobyl #4 (kit #35904) is 4 figures of "Deactivators." If you're buying an ICM ZiL-131 truck, be aware that they made 2 different versions with that shelter. The original issue, #35517, has a basic shelter with no detail inside. It's all green on the box art. The later kit, #35518, says "Emergency Truck" on the box, with a yellow shelter and lots of detail inside. But it's configured more like a service/repair truck, not an emergency truck. Lots of bins with small drawers for tools, etc.

HAHAHAHAHA! Now you have to find some small model rocket engines and make working launchable torpedoes and REALLY irritate the neighbors! BOO-YA!
SfanGoch Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 I'm way ahead of you on this one, Rich. I've got a parts/price list somewhere on the PC for compressed air torpedoes that are charged from an airbrush propellant can.

I love it. Cheers, -Don.
SfanGoch Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 It's huge, Donald. The length is 1030mm (40.5 inches). I bought it from Udisco Hobby, in Montreal, about eight years ago. I'm working on a servo=controlled linkage setup which will control all three rudders to create an fully operational Lurssen effect.
DonW Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Lurssen rudders! Well I learned something today. Thanks Joe -Don.
Roadrunner Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Just arrived today, via a deal with an old pal.
unclescott58 Posted April 4, 2020 Posted April 4, 2020 Today's mail call included three models. Though none directly car related. The three kits are all for my N scale train layout. And all three are Walthers Cornerstone kits. As you can see, I got Al's Victory Service (slightly car related), Jim's Repair Shop, and Two-Story Frame House. With the experience I've had with other Walthers Cornerstone buildings, I'm sure I'll be very happy with these three also.
unclescott58 Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Besides the a Jeep and Mercedes, here are two non-automotive models I received in the mail today. Both for my N Scale layout.
Roadrunner Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 This just arrived today, a deal from a fellow forum member (different forum). Now I can finish/repair/rebuild the kit that I abandoned a few months back; too cool.
unclescott58 Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 (edited) This morning (Easter Sunday no less!), Amazon delivered the following. Another N scale building. This time a prebuilt building that is part of Bachman's Scene Scapes series. Here's what it says on the side of the box: * false-front resin building; * N scale; * realistic details and colors; and * includes photo background of shop interior. A very nice model. Of a hobby store no less. Costing under $25.00. How could I pass it up. I love the sign above the door. HOBBIES. Then below, Trains (of course) - Models - Toys - Games. Now my N scale people have someplace to buy their own N scale stuff. (?) Edited April 12, 2020 by unclescott58
