mustang1989 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Thanks Tommy, Dan and Fred! Tommy I doubt that on the joke part! lol Fred. It's gonna be ok as far as colors are concerned I'm gonna hang with what I have right now. Too much work invested already. lol . I do have to work on the finish variations though. freakshow12 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I have that reference picture too. I also looked at others and some original unrestored cars. The main reason I am doubting the all black is that from all the big three the resivoir and cap are usually natural finishes due to the fact brake fluid eats paint very quickly. I'm sure what you have done will look good. I find the various finishes help in scale since the parts are so small
mustang1989 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Thanks Fred for the heads up. In the future builds and for future reference on this build I'll be checking out other resources on colors and routing. There's not nearly as much guess work with cars as there is with warbirds thankfully! lol
freakshow12 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 That's true. I've learned from restoring stuff that what is original and correct to one car could be just a little different on an otherwise identical car. Things were pretty loosey goosey back then lol

I'm sure what you have done will look good. I find the various finishes help in scale since the parts are so small Joe, at the risk of being a huge buttinski, I agree with Fred on this. Since you've gone to the trouble of adding so much incredible detail to various other areas of the build, would it really take a whole lot of effort to correct this one? Just a thought...
mustang1989 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Decisions decisions decisions. I'm gonna nap for a bit and think on it. Thanks Monty for the input. Sometimes we do need a little push to backtrack and "look things over " in the big picture. lol Edited January 17, 2015 by mustang1989
Mopar - D Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Joe I know the feeling and I'm with Fred and Monty on adding some color it will look good with your wiper motor.
freakshow12 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 It's for the greater good man! The greater good... ?
mustang1989 Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the reference pic Fred! This is where I'm at right now waiting for the enamel coats to cure out so I can do some touch up to it to keep it looking too "fresh". I appreciate all the input and I don't take it wrong when I get constructively corrected. It's all for the benefit of learning. Here we are now after a semi gloss coat on the booster, goldish color on the cap and an iron coat on the master cylinder. Will paint the retainer and touch up the rest tomorrow... mustang1989 Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Thank you Lee! Well I managed to squeak a couple more minutes in this morning for the additional touches. Now it's time to move on to the brake lines....... Thank you for the for the input fellas:
djmcguire Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Peer pressure man, peer pressure! Baby steps but looking great Joe.
FASTBACK340 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Wow…. The wiring for the horns (with mounting brackets!), ECU, and wiper motor are nice touches. The masking and painting of the wheels was nicely done The body save. It speaks for itself! And the engine. Very nice detailing and assembly. Beautiful detailing on the air cleaner assembly, the rubber gasket looks so real! But the one area that blows me away is that dash. REALLY nice job on those gauges. That will now be incorporated in my future builds. Thanks for sharing all your details and scratch building methods. I absolutely LOVE following heavy-tech builds and I really like your realistic approach. Keep us posted on the continuation and completion of this beauty!
magaloud Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 As someone just getting back into modelling after many years, I like looking at these posts of experienced modellers. Really admire work like this.
BirdWatcher Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Wow! Awesome work there...The plumbing is really gonna set it off.
mustang1989 Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks Fred, Daniel, Tom and Buzz! I know I needed to give it more than I did initially. Must have been one of those halfway days starting out the other morning. lol I tend to not call it peer pressure but lateral support....................and accountability. John:Thanks for all the good comments. I did have alot of fun with that IP. I was surprised myself when I looked at the completed dash. Lewis:Glad to see you are back into the modeling realm. I've been back for 3 years now after a mostly off and partially on status for around 22 years. I appreciate your comments. Hopefully I'll be able to touch this all up in a spot or two that I noticed later and start on the brake lines tomorrow.
slusher Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Super nice work on the master cylinder Joe. Did I hear brake lines???
mustang1989 Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Thanks Carl. On the brake lines, yes. I'll have the lines coming off of the master cylinder and routing down towards the frame. There's a nice little area down there where I can terminate the lines. This kit was cool as far as detail goes when I was a kid but there's just so much missing here. No front brake rotors and calipers just to name a couple of things but then again, you can't have it all I guess. Here's so far and I really had to play with the angles and the lights this morning. I must have taken 10-15 shots before I finally got one I could live with. lol
mustang1989 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Well this morning I spent tinkering around with the voltage regulator a little more and working on the brake line fit with the master cylinder mounted up. Anytime I do alot of mods / additions to my builds I always make sure to have a spare kit close by for stuff like this (in this case I have two spare kits! lol). With the master cylinder mounted up in the body, the lines needed a whole lot more tweaking to wind up in the right place on , or in this case, in the frame. I found out that I had to bend the lines more towards the center of the car at the point where they exit the master cylinder. I had to make some other pretty big adjustments to them and still have a little ways to go but here's the mock up:
Monty Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Me again. Those brake lines will probably look OK as you've got them set up, but not everybody will be convinced that they're meant to represent tubing. I'd suggest you get busy this afternoon and get them drilled out all the way through.
mustang1989 Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 LOL! Lemme get my special "roto rooter" drill bit for that!
Monty Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 LOL! Lemme get my special "roto rooter" drill bit for that! Quite a bit of time went by before you replied to that post. I was starting to wonder if you'd figured out a way to do it! Wouldn't surprise me at this point.
