Great job on the interior and exhaust Joe. Man I think we both started our projects around the same time.. seems like ions ago don't it. Sometimes I ask myself, "is this thing ever gonna get done?" lol, but I keep plugin away at it. Do ya ever get to feeling that way? bet ya do lol. Anyways like I said, nice work so far my friend.

Thank you Jim and Brodie!

I feel like that all the frikkin' time Jim! I'm loving this build the whole way but I'm ready for it to be done already! lol . I'm not gonna short cut it or give in but that feeling is there all the time about the getting done.

What's really funny about it is that this was initially going to be a job where I pulled it down from the shelf, painted a replacement hood and rear spoiler up, install the two pieces and put it back up on the shelf so I could move on to my Bf109 build that's still in the box next to the bench. I had no idea what I was in for. emotion-8.gif

Tom: Thank you sir! I'm looking forward to the finish as well.

Lee: Thanks buddy! On this build I'm going to leave the interior as is here. I've gotta have something that says "I was here when I was 14!" . :D

Dan: Thank you as well bud! I've used this stuff before and you're right.................it's addictive!

Jeremy: Thanks Jeremy! I appreciate that!

Everybody:Today I tried BMF on for size in the automotive world. To briefly qualify myself here, I am no stranger to this stuff. I use it in my aircraft building in places that had bare aluminum, particularly on my Luftwaffe subjects.

My Fw190D-9 with matte aluminum BMF on the undersides:

My experience with BMF in the automotive world went quite different. It took me several tries before I was even remotely satisfied with the outcome. The chrome BMF, I found out, requires this stuff to be as smooth as a baby's butt. I have mixed feelings about it here but I think I can live with it.

Joe before I place my BMF on body parts I first buff and polish them.

I put a drop of thinner (usually Tamiya thinner) on a Q-tip and clean out the grooves and surfaces where the BMF will be placed, in order to make sure it sticks. It's not enough thinner to remove the paint, but just enough to remove any polish or wax that might be lingering.

Tommy: I know what you mean with the varying results. I've re-chromed these tips now three times. I think I've finally got it though.wiping%20brow_zpsgqh5sg63.gif

Tim: I took your tip a step further. I only have Testors paint thinner so I applied that and followed it up with a cotton swab soaked with ISO then applied the BMF. I posted pics below and although the end of the tips looks somewhat questionable in the photo (another macro shot to show flaws you can barely see without a vision aid philinspector_zpsb2663074.gif) I think I can touch it up and make it fly. Thanks for the tip buddy!

John: Thank you sir!!

Everybody: Here are todays shots after two more applications of this BMF before I got it all down. Again the flaws are evident only in macro form. I wear 1.25x glasses and can't see half of this stuff! I still need to darken the inside of the tips and touch up the hanger strap on one muffler (after a 1-1/2 hour session applying and inspecting progress I feel a little loco1_zpsf9aac42c.gif)so it's not truly finished yet but here's the latest...............

and a close up shot of the tip. The shine and the way the BMF layed down smooth turned out to my liking on this!

You sir are a perfectionist...and I applaud you for that! I think I need to pick up some BMF today at the hobby store...try my hand at it. You have given me inspiration.

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for this to get done, lol. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but you are partly responsible for it taking me so long on my little project [ ok, it was really inspiration after watching all you've done, you pushed me to add a little more detail to things, for that, I say thanks].

keep at it man, love seeing the updates B)

Joe your exhaust tips came out pretty good to my eye for all the struggling you did with them. Here is my two cents worth for using BMF on small parts. On bodies I use BMF over the paint after painting like most here. But on small detail parts such as dashes and things like your doing with the exhaust tips, I apply the BMF before paint and primer and then prime and paint over the BMF, after the painted parts dry, I use q-tips and/or tooth picks soaked in lacquer thinner and clean the paint off the sections with the BMF on them. It usually turns out much better than trying to apply the BMF over the painted parts. I will even use this same process on the script of unpainted bodies as well, especially ones that I don't use after market script on at least. You can still try this on your exhaust tips if you want. To do this, just gently sand or lightly scrape the paint off the area of the tips you want to apply the BMF to and re cover them in BMF.

Thanks Dan! I would like to say that persistence is probably a more accurate word than dedication! LOL

Brodie: Thank you as well sir! I'm not perfectionist that's for sure. If I was that I'd never get this build finished! lol. I just know what I want is all. I have had this model built in my head for some time now so I know the direction I want to go with it. I appreciate the fact that I was an inspiration to you and looking forward to your successes with the BMF.

Tom: Thank you for the encouragment along the way and that goes for Greg, Carl and Lee as well! :D

Jim: Thanks for the "atta boy" and the tips. Just so you know I did strip the paint from the tips and apply the BMF straight to the plastic for the very reasons you gave already and is the reason for how smooth they turned out. I'd like to offer a word of thanks for your inspiration to me and the help along the way.

Got some progress today on the build in the form of starting on the BMF application. I managed to get the area at the rear part of the car where the trunk is and the drivers and passengers quarter window post/ track. So far I've had decent luck with it and will post photos tomorrow after I've made some more progress.

Tom: LOL !!! Got a couple this morning here.

Dan: I polished it out a little bit to smooth out some of the irregularities but for the most part I'm not going to push my luck! lol

Tim: I had to take a break from the forums yesterday for the most part. Just didn't get enough rest over the weekend and my body was letting me know about it. I dozed right through a red light yesterday  and decided that maybe yesterday evening/last night wasn't going to be spent on the forums but resting instead. I feel a helluva lot better this morning. Between yesterday morning and this morning I managed to get about 45 minutes of benchtime in. I've started on the BMF. Although it aint a whole lot I figured I'd better post some progress to let you all know I'm still among the living here........

I got the rear trim done on the deck lid and the quarter panels:

and the side window channel trim:

I'll be picking up the pace in the coming days fellas
