afx Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Coming together nicely. Looks like that motors gonna fit in there like a glove! Thanks Joe only a few more thing to add to the engine bay, a fan and a coil and I might be finished with that area.
Randy D Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 Hi JC, Your scratch building is really upgrading the engine and bay !!!!!!!!! How did you do the pulleys? Randy
afx Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Thanks Randy. I made the pulleys from tubing, sheet styrene and hex rod. Basically just stacked them up. The smaller pulleys are made from solid rod. I turned a ball bit (in a pin vise) to scallop out the ends and then pin mounted them with some .020 brass rod. Edited February 9, 2015 by afx
afx Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Here I have fabricated the 8-blade fan. I think I am about to the end of the engine work. I'm running out things to add to it. Edited February 9, 2015 by afx 1
dublin boy Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 You've fogotten the double under whatyaflab rocker devise they used on the Circurt of Ireland stages JC Great work, can't wait to see some paint on it. I assume we'll have plug wires at least? Keep it up.
afx Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) I knew you would know Shay what I forgot. Yep plug wires, oil lines, fuel lines, coolant lines, throttle cable and maybe some ignition wiring. Edited February 10, 2015 by afx
Speedfreak Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 JC, what color are you gonna paint the engine? If in fact you are, because that light blue in that one engine photo with the red carb throats etc,.... looks awsome. Looking great man!

That fan is fantastic JC. Aww come on with the detail..........you can always add hoses and clamps and a dipstick. lol

Most racing engines aren't painted so I'm pretty sure I am going with various metal shades. Boring I know but I am trying to be accurate.

I surprised myself by how well the fan turned out. After the blades setup a bit I flowed some additional liquid cement (Testors) around them and they are surprisingly strong.
cruz Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I'm loving this build bro, please make sure to bring it to the next meeting if you are going to attend!

om617 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Excellent work. I would loved to have the engine in display on its own.
afx Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Excellent work. I would loved to have the engine in display on its own. Thanks Tommy. I really like building engines. Wish someone would resin cast a BDA. I am only using (5) kit parts, the complete block, head and oil pan could be cast as one piece, then cast the carburetors and the header and you have a nice (3) piece engine kit. dublin boy Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 The cam cover would have been black back in the day I think, the sump also. The rest was Aluminium alloy, which the kit gives by default with the swirly silver plastic
afx Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 The cam cover would have been black back in the day I think, the sump also. The rest was Aluminium alloy, which the kit gives by default with the swirly silver plastic The very few original engine pictures I have found show the cam cover either black or unfinished so I have not yet decided. I may go with a titanium gold color for the oil pan (sump).
dublin boy Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Both seem correct JC, the black might add a bit of contrast.
afx Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 With a little help from my fellow Escort brethren I was able to sort out the oil cooler position. Unusual that it is installed vertically. The oil lines will pass through the hole in the bulkhead. The remote oil filter is the object below the chassis.
Speedfreak Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Wow Jc, you're crossing over into another realm on this one. Very good. Where did you get that oil filter?
mustang1989 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Now that's what I'm talking about!!! Turnin' it up a notch!!!
afx Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 Wow Jc, you're crossing over into another realm on this one. Very good. Where did you get that oil filter? Thanks Gene. The oil filter is from the Revell Parts Pack 427 engine kit. It is an engine mounted unit. I modified it with some hex rod and brass rod to resemble a remote mounted unit. Now that's what I'm talking about!!! Turnin' it up a notch!!! Thanks Joe your Challenger T/A is turning out great.
mustang1989 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Dang it dude! This is gettin' down to the nitty-gritty with this build! Wow!!
