Ramfins59 Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Thanks very much everyone, your kind words are appreciated.
TFchronos Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Super sweet, I'll be watching this one closely.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Great project, and one that should really showcase your BMF skills.
Sixx Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 You did a fantastic job on the vents Rich!!!! :-)
Ron Hamilton Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I really like where this one is going.
LDO Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 The touched-up trim looks really nice. What color or colors will you use?
Ramfins59 Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Thank you Ron and Lee. Lee, as I said in my Post #23 above, I have to decide between either Tangelo Pearl, or, Ultra Orange Pearl , both by House of Kolor, for the body. I'll go with Tamiya Red / Brown for the side trim insert. The interior will be shades of Orange and Leather and maybe some Orange flocking thrown in, with Brown flocked carpet.
Ramfins59 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Today I finished up the engine assembly for this car. The block, heads and intake manifold are painted aluminum and the tranny is steel. The valve covers, air cleaner assembly and oil filler cap are painted body color which is HOK Tangelo Pearl. I added some BMF and PE bolt heads to the air cleaner top, and a piece of copper wire for a fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb fuel line. The engine decals are really tiny, fiddly little pieces and I somehow lost the one for the oil filler cap... I put some BMF over the Chrysler Fire Power lettering on the valve covers before I painted them, and then carefully rubbed off the paint with a polishing cloth. Tomorrow I'll start work on the chassis assembly. I've already painted the chassis frame semi-gloss black and the floor pan dark gray. The top side of the floor pan, or the interior floor, has been painted flat brown in preparation for brown flocking for the carpet. Thanks for looking in on this update. Further updates to come.
BirdWatcher Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Hey Rich, did I read right? Your first time adding trim? Looks like you've got it down. Straight lines,no sags...great job! Those decals and your script work really help bring out the detail on that engine too.
Ramfins59 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Thanks Buzz. Yes, this is the first time I've added trim to a model. It really wasn't hard to keep the thin plastic strip nice and straight. The hardest and most tedious part was opening the vent holes.
10thumbs Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 What a difference a few small details can make. Great looking motor. Michael
crazyrichard Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) awsome looking engine , i love that color ..and the detail with the bend copper wire (i am righ yes ?? bend copper or brass) Edited December 30, 2014 by crazyrichard
Ramfins59 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Thank you all very much guys. Richard, yes that is a small piece of thin copper wire that I bent for the fuel line.
Codi Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Really sharp Richard. Your attention to detail is really shining through. Tim
Ramfins59 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Thank you Tom and Tim. Instead of working on the chassis as planned, I started work on the interior parts. The carpet is flocked in a Dark Brown color which came out really nice. The seats were painted a Dark Tan and Leather colors. I'll post pictures when the paint dries.
Tom Geiger Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Instead of working on the chassis as planned, I started work on the interior parts Ha! I picked up chassis duty on my Volare. Spent part of the afternoon making an exhaust system, all parts like a 1:1. And then I realized that the wheel backs I used won't work so I'm back to the parts box for some of those!
