Thanks a lot Bill.

Fred, as soon as I get more progress done on something I'll be able to post more pictures.

Dan, yeah, I know... The forecasts aren't looking great. I'm counting on hopefully being able to spray some paint in my basement by the end of this week as my daughter is leaving soon to work at a Renaissance Fair in Arizona. When she's home here, she lives in half of the basement. Once she is gone, and my wife leaves for work in the early afternoons, I'll be able to get away with painting down there. The smell of the paint will be dissipated by the time my wife gets back home around 8 PM.

I finally got the body painted with the Tangelo Pearl by House of Kolor (Black Gold). The paint dries flat and obviously needs a clearcoat which I will do after I mask off the side trim insert and spray that with the Tamiya Red/Brown color. The paint covered really well with no imperfections.

I still have plenty of work yet to do on the engine compartment parts and the rest of the interior. Progress continues...

Thanks guys.

Derrick, yes the paint went on really great. My only complaint is that with the really small cans you only get enough paint to only do one model thoroughly. I painted the body & hood, firewall, dashboard, steering wheel and upper interior door panels with 2 coats and at the end was really having to shake the can to coax out the last couple of squirts. Even Tamiya's small cans will have enough paint for at least 2 cars...... not so with Black Gold. I'll always spray at least 2 coats to ensure good coverage.

Bruce, yeah man, I'm looking forward to getting the gloss clearcoat on this car.

WOW

Love the color and very subtle mods. Usually customs are not my thing but I really like where this is headed.

Any idea on a wheel choice yet ?

Thank you all very much everyone.

Bill, yes, if I can get them to fit in the wheel wells, I'll be using some Pegasus wheels......

These pretty closely match the concept picture that inspired this project......

I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that I don't run into any hassles when it comes time to fit the completed assembly of the chassis / wheels / engine / interior up into the body. That's usually where fitment problems occur. Worst case scenario, I may have to narrow down the wheels and tires a bit. Still have lots of work to do before I get to that point.

I masked off the body and painted the side trim insert with Tamiya Red/Brown. I let that dry for the afternoon and just got done clearcoating the whole thing...... no runs...... no drips......no errors...!!! Yeah, I know... pictures or it never happened...... As soon as the clearcoat dries I'll get some pictures up here.

I also did some paint and detail work on some of the interior parts. Those will also be shown soon. Still much to do but things are looking good so far. I've got a couple of cool things to go in the side trim inserts...... Stay tuned.

OK...... so there's usually ALWAYS a glitch that shows up somewhere right..?? The paint and clearcoat on the body came out perfect. The paint on the hood came out perfect, but the clearcoat on the hood came out kind of wrinkly... not quite crazed, but wrinkly..!! It doesn't look like it would be an easy chore to polish out the wrinkles in the clearcoat. Since I can't squeeze any more paint out of the can, I went online and ordered another can of the Tangelo Pearl from Black Gold. I'll put the hood in the paint stripper tub and when the paint arrives I'll reshoot the hood.

In the meantime I can finish up the work on the interior and the engine compartment. A real P.I.T.A. but it's not the end of the world. I'm just hoping that there is no "shade" difference with the new can of paint..!!

Gotta love these little glitches right..?? And the beat goes on......

I don't know how many times it has happened to me Rich. I am glad that it wasn't the body. if you have an extra hood you could wait on the strip until you color test it...

Rich, I'm sure it will come out right. Great color on a truly good looking car model.

What do you suppose the problem was with the hood? Clear applied too thick? Room temp?
