mikelo Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I put mine (when they are finished) in a display case I made from pre cut/pre finished pieces found in the shelving department of a local hardware store.
crispy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I have an old 6 ft. hobby shop wood and glass case I can put at least 100 models in: I also have a tall glass case in my shop with 4 levels that I put other kits in: I've also got a Giovanni plastics 1/18 scale 12 car display case. I find this offers more room for some of the bigger vehicles. No pic of that one though. Plenty of space to display. I display them all in my basement near my hobby room. Chris
Billy Kingsley Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) I have 26 AMT display cases stacked up, and display a few more in front of them. Again, this is an old shot, so it's not the same now. I've been meaning to take a new photo. It's from 2005, and only 7 of the cars you can make out in the cases are still in cases! I have a wooden display cabinet I ordered from QVC several years ago but have not assembled it yet-no where to put it. I'm planning on rearranging some things soon which should give me space to finally build that (I think I got it in 2004 or 05!) and it will also allow to me to get some of those chrome backed cases. I've been wanting one of them for a while and I'll finally be able to get it soon. The 49 Ford kit you see is actually built, but it's stored in the box. For quite a while that was my favorite build, though it has since been eclipsed. The framed photo on the right is my dad, who died in 2002. I store my 1/64 NASCAR models on the windowsill. I've built more then the windowsill will hold, though, and I've been lining them up infront of the loose models on display. I also have been using the PVC boxes from Racing Champions, wish I had more of them. This photo is kind of washed out, unfortunatly. The two Petty Superbirds are not my creations, they were just stored there, and have since been replaced with my own. Edited January 31, 2008 by Billy Kingsley
dub Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I see I'm not the only one with one of these. Hey, why not? They're cheap and they look great.
stanleymsn Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Hey Dub I see that you a have been to Ikea!!!!
novadose71 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I really like the tall square cases you guys have, I'll have to keep on the lookout for one of those. I have two hanging wall cases, one in the living room and one in the model room.My uncle built these for my grandpa and I received them when he passed away. I made the risers from 1x4 pine so I could display some 1/64 and smaller stuff in front of the models. My wife found the lower floor standing case at a garage sale, it had two shelves and I added the smaller shelves so I could cram as much in there as possible. The drawers also make a nice drop zone for new goodies that I'm too lazy to take into the basement model room. I got this one a few months ago cheap from a friend. It's in my model room and has a built in fluorescent light that I need to rewire. I haven't had a chance to fill it up yet either. This is the home for my Big T when I finish it. That's where I display, thanks for stopping by.
dub Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Is that an old four-channel reciever I spy? Looks like it's cherry too! Those tall square glass cabinets are about $60 at IKEA without the light. IIRC it was only another $5. (too bad the bulbs are $6! @ the hardware store! ) The ONLY thing I don't like about it is how heavy it is. 76lbs!!!
novadose71 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 76 lbs?! That's more than my receiver weighs.haha It's a Pioneer QX9900 and I got 4 Sansui SF-2 speakers to get me by until I find some suitable Pioneers. It cranks pretty good. what were we talking about again ?......................... oh yeah .... display cases. Cool.
Clay Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Mine are either put back in their boxes or just sitting out on my work table. The wife doesnt want me to display them. And plus we dont have an Extra room to ba a hobby room, thats the only thing that sucks about being in military housing
Paul Payne Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I display them in clear styrene storage boxes (and dust STILL gets inside!) on shelves in my model room. Active projects live on my workbench until finished. Some have lived there for years......
CaseyG83 Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I don't have this problem because in the six or so months i've been building autos i've yet to finish one I have a very bad case of A.D.H.D. I'm close to finishing three I think they are gonna end up on a book shelf in the bedroom. My plane are all hanging in a spare bedroom on in my grandpa's office at work.
Billy Kingsley Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Here are current shots of my display...taken yesterday. The regular section... The wide angle showing my wall display. All those cars are duplicates of some of the first ones I ever got, and my autographed car collection (there are others but you can't hang boxes!) The chrome chase ones and the Ricky Rudd uniform car are not duplates, but they are hanging there too. In case you are wondering, the autographed cars hanging are Kirk Shelmerdine, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards and Andy Belmont...that big open space usually holds a calender, as I usually have two, but this year I only have one... You also see my home made paint rack...I put the cars there to dry. It's kind of a jumbled mess at the moment but you can see how it should look...The primer gray Monte Carlo and green Intrepid show how it should look.
Tom Kren Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 A BOOK CASE FROM K-MART TOOK OUT THE WOOD SHELFS AND HAD GLASS CUT AND USED PLEXI GLASS FOR DOORS COST BOUT $80
Jeff Johnston Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Like Billy, I also stack the AMT cases. Here is what I have on display now. Aftre a while I always end up ebaying builts to fund unbuilts :-) Here are all but 4 of my unbuilt kits.
