Roadrunner Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 Masking the interior wood areas with liquid mask was a sound idea but poorly executed. I'll have to very carefully repaint them.
atomicholiday Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 In retrospect, I really wish I'd painted all of this before attaching to car... I'm guessing attaching them before paint stems from being primarily an aircraft modeller? Kind of like using NATO black earlier in the build. I never even heard of NATO colors until I started building planes. Regardless, it's really looking great so far.

I've been building aircraft models for years now, and just recently decided to dive back into cars. And thank you. For my first car project in two decades, I'm very pleased with the way it's coming along.
atomicholiday Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I'm going thru the same thing, but in reverse. I still have a hard time with the idea of gluing fuselage halves together, attaching wings, etc... before paint. I get why you should do it that way, but being a car modeller for so long, it just goes against the grain for me.
Stray Posted April 11, 2015 Posted April 11, 2015 Reckon you can get your hands on the old car when you're finished and do a side-by-side photo set? Would be great to see the difference in build finish twenty years apart!

Would be great to see the difference in build finish twenty years apart! I think that's probably doable. He only lives a couple of miles from here.
Roadrunner Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Received these today, the replacement parts that should allow me to finish this beast in time for the show. Parts generously donated gratis by Joe (Mustang1989),... thanks very much, Joe, I appreciate it immensely.
freakshow12 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 That's great you will make the deadline. I usually decal very last. I don't like clearing over them since that's not how 1:1 cars are
Roadrunner Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 (edited) I agree, Fred, but my childlike impatience got the better of me I'm afraid. Edited April 13, 2015 by Roadrunner
mustang1989 Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 I agree, Fred, by my childlike impatience got the better of me I'm afraid. There's a lot of us that happens to bubba!! Go light on yourself.
Stray Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 It's okay to be childlike since we are playing with toys
Roadrunner Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 It's okay to be childlike since we are playing with toys It's good to know that I'm not alone. I certainly won't be playing with this on the basement floor like I used to when I was a little rat.
Roadrunner Posted April 17, 2015 Author Posted April 17, 2015 Slight change in plans here. Since the rest of the car is 100% stock (except the color), I've decided to also use a stock hood. Here it is getting prepped for paint. It also appears that there's little chance I'll have this finished by the 3rd as intended, and even if it were, as it turns out, I can't go anyway. Just another disappointment in a long string of disappointments.
Stray Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I hope he didn't bend that envelope and get sucked into a parallel universe
Roadrunner Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 Nope, still loitering. I just really haven't seen a lot of bench time in the last week or so.
Stray Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I'm worried he has coated it in lighter fluid and given it a Vikings Funeral
mustang1989 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Nah! Somethin' tells me he'll get back around to this one!
Roadrunner Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 Well it's obvious that I haven't visited this thread in a while, but thanks for checking in. I've been spending most of my modeling time lately, working on a big (1:6 scale) Flak gun (here), so have had little time to devote to the Challenger. I also got temporarily distracted by my then newly acquired '32 Vicky, and was going along like gangbusters on that, until I completely ruined the paint job, and abandoned it too, at least for a while. Photo of the Vic', before I trashed it.
Roadrunner Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 I'm worried he has coated it in lighter fluid and given it a Vikings Funeral You bet I will. I'll be doing two or three more Challengers as well, each one being better than the last (I hope).
Roadrunner Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 I just recently (very recently) ordered some more Testors lacquers for upcoming projects, but have a feeling that the Diamond Dust is going to be a real letdown. Not until after I had ordered it, did I do a search for the color as applied, and am not too thrilled with what I've seen so far.
mustang1989 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Lookin' forward to more on that Challenger Kevin!
