Kennyboy Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 (edited) I always intended on doing a WIP on this build but now I am glad I did not. I have been working on this (on the side) for around 7 months! It is a fiddly LITTLE kit but the detail level is really quite good. Had a great time converting it to a race car....you see, the wheels and tires you see in my finished model were not from the kit. The kit wheels were tiny little guys and just would not do it for me, to install the wheels that are now on it was quite an undertaking because I had to essentially "tub" the chassis and do many suspension/frame mods (a little of a P.I.T.A.) Detailed out the engine with fuel lines and wiring and a bit of weathering, the decals came mostly from the Tamiya Minolta Supra, the wheels/tires were obtained in a trade with "Daddyfink" a while back and were PERFECT in size for the car, paint is all HOK (Black, White, and Clear). Enjoy the pictures of my fun weekend racer guys....any questions will be answered and comments are welcome! Edited January 3, 2015 by Kennyboy
Kennyboy Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Nice work Ken. Do you own a 1:1 S800? Thanks John. No, I wish I did though! I like many different subjects....you know less mainstream, this fit that perfectly!
afx Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Thanks John. No, I wish I did though! I like many different subjects....you know less mainstream, this fit that perfectly! I thought your avatar might be your 1:1 car.
Kennyboy Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 I thought your avatar might be your 1:1 car. Oh ok, no I just usually put up the kit subject I am obsessing over at the time as my avatar. Would be cool though!
bbowser Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Nice, never seen one of these! Finished model looks great.
TooOld Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 A smaller subject like this can really test your abilities when trying to add details but you did a great job , congrats !
Kennyboy Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Nice, never seen one of these! Finished model looks great. Thank you Bruce! First one I had ever seen in model form........had to have it! A smaller subject like this can really test your abilities when trying to add details but you did a great job , congrats ! Boy, you got that right Bob.....Tiny tiny parts! The finished model will fit IN the palm of your hand!! Thank you very much.
Kennyboy Posted December 28, 2014 Author Posted December 28, 2014 Very impressive Ken ! Hey thanks Ray! Cheers!
Dirty Dave Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Classy! That's a lot of rubber for that little motor to spin, but it looks great.
jbwelda Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 that's a very nice build. I did one of these many years ago and was real impressed with the fit and the level of detail. you really did it right! I fitted a pilot figure as it was going to be on a race course diorama and let me tell you that was some squeezing to get him in there! I started with the kit that was already the race car. I don't recall exactly and of course your wheels and tires are way bigger, but I think it came with some wide tires and wheels...or maybe I used some from another kit, maybe the Tamiya mini cooper (bmc not bmw) or perhaps a gunze abarth 850. your engine compartment really looks great with the detailing! jb
Kennyboy Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 Thank you William for the nice words. Would love to see your completed model! I started with the non-race version. The one with the silver car on the box art.
Erik Smith Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Looks very cool. Great work. That is a nice kit - very finely molded - and considering its been slung around and released quite a few times, the molds held up well. The windshield frame itself is very delicate.
Jeremy Jon Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Awesome work Kenny, looks fantastic! Those are unique little cars, RPM up to 9000, from that tiny engine, sounds like a mini F1 engine in person, cool stuff!
Kennyboy Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 You are right about the windshield frame Erik, the darn frame broke free from the driver top corner at least 14 times after being glued! It is only 1/8" thick of styrene!!! Thank you very much for your comments.
