jaftygas Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) I was thinking about building my 1/12 scale z28 302 camaro as a COPO and don't know if the r/s wheels will work, if I cut out the caps and make the ones found on the COPO in my lathe? The motor is from the 67 corvette kit same scale obviously. Any links or first hand experience would be helpful before I decide to do this. Edited December 29, 2014 by jaftygas
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Just Google "1969 COPO Camaro" and you will get a lot of hits. I just tried it...everything you might want to know should be there.

Force Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Well the wheels in the 1:12 Camaro kit are SS Rally wheels and most of the COPO Camaro's I have seen had plain steel wheels with 4 narrow slots at the edge with a standard cap instead of the 5 oval holes rally's with rally cap...but...I know the rally wheel was avaliable for any Camaro and I'm sure some of the Baldwin Motion and Yenko Camaro's had Rally wheels with the Rally cap and they were also ordered through the Central Office Production Order system. And it's your model and you do as you please. Edited December 29, 2014 by Force
Snake45 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Rally Wheels would be a correct option for any COPO 9561 (L72 427) Camaro. In fact, all the Yenkos would have been delivered with them as the 15" Rallys were a part of COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion Package which all Yenkos also had in addition to being COPO 9561s. If you can find some decent tires to put on those 1/12 Rally Wheels, you're good to go. (Lack of decent tires is what's kept me from building all three of those kits for over 20 years now.)
Casey Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 The motor is from the 67 corvette kit same scale obviously. Any links or first hand experience would be helpful before I decide to do this. You'll need new engine mounts and exhaust manifolds, as the Vette pieces won't swap over to nor fit inside of the Camaro's subframe. Then there's the radiator and shroud which must be changed, new radiator hoses, changing the interior to the base interior...
Snake45 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 ....changing the interior to the base interior... The Custom Interior would have been a correct option for a COPO 9561 Camaro. You could order one with just about any regular Camaro options, up to and including Rally Sport (powertrain permitting, of course).
jaftygas Posted December 30, 2014 Author Posted December 30, 2014 Thanks for all the help with this guys. I've done a lot of research and found that the ZL1 all aluminum motor was quite different, but I don't care. I'm going to build it anyway. I find doing the research that you could get them about any way you want as long as it had the one inch sway bar and the disc brakes, hell some even had an R/S package. Casey I'm going to do my best with the engine, however it is the least of my worries as I have to open the doors and build the jams. Snake I like the rally's best, but I'm going to try making steel wheels on my lathe and dog dish as well, if it don't work I will try painting the rally's body color and make dog dishes.

Force Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 The ZL-1 427 has pretty much the same outside appearance as the cast iron version, the block, heads and intake manifold was raw aluminum tho' and most of the other stuff was black including the air cleaner, timing cover and oil pan, the valve covers were chrome and the exhaust manifolds were cast iron.
