charlie8575 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Driven daily for 38 years. Except possibly getting something in a little better condition to start with, the idea has a lot of appeal. https://autos.yahoo.com/news/man-buys-pickup-75-drives-38-years-plus-153023218.html Charlie Larkin
mikemodeler Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Wouldn't be surprised to see Chevrolet step in and do something for him, either restoring the truck or giving him a new Silverado. Nice story.
1930fordpickup Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I would be very surprised if GM gave him a dime. Take a good look at Flint.
Fabrux Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) This guy in Darthmouth, NS has been driving the same truck for 40 years: http://globalnews.ca/news/1657901/dartmouth-man-celebrates-40-years-driving-the-same-truck/ Edited January 5, 2015 by kataranga
keyser Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Rather have a freshly restored 57, than a new 1500. Small window cab, a fave. Poor truck needs some work, but can't get more honest than that. Cool. Edited January 5, 2015 by keyser

Ace-Garageguy Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 (edited) Past 275,000 on my '92 Chevy truck. The guy in the story must not drive much. Only major work she's needed so far was a trans rebuild at about 225,000. Love the quote from the article too..."Then again, who would buy it at this point?" Guess to be an automotive journalist it's not necessary to be aware there are literally millions of people who buy old 'junk' vehicles every year. Edited January 5, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
FASTBACK340 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I would be very surprised if GM gave him a dime. Take a good look at Flint. I'd be even more surprised if anyone that mattered at GM cared…. They probably see it as potential units not sold. They hate guys like him.

They hate guys like him. Yep. My dad had a F150 when dad hit the 400,000 mark he was telling his boss (he worked at Ford)about it. The guy said to him you get the A plan buy a new one. LOL He did buy it new and he kept track of the miles. 300 Inline 6 have to love them.
62rebel Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 omigod it's so old it might explode and burn down a school full of blind kids. why, they oughta outlaw them things. i thought i'd get the liberal media slant shoved in there somewhere.

What the hell are you talking about? That's generally referred to as "sarcasm", Cameron. sar·casm ˈsärˌkazəm/ noun the use of irony to mock or convey contempt.
wrecker388 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Whoa. I thought my dad having 355,000 on his 88 K1500 was impressive. This is quite impressive.

62rebel Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 i absolutely loathe modern cars and trucks. no secret there. i'm constantly searching for the right old vehicle to carry me through these coming years, and when i decide what it will be, i will hoard repair and replacement parts against the nearing day when nothing at all is available. nothing with electronics, nothing with power accessories, possibly not even electric wipers. it won't have printed circuitry, fuel injection (unless it's mechanical and i don't see many of those around), or ABS, and definitely no claymore mine attached to the steering wheel. people will point at that gray-haired old man driving that old car and wonder "WHY?".... and i'll smile to myself and answer "because."
