I bet all the Patriot's balls will be checked thoroughly before the Super Bowl!!

Posted

I can't figure out why they let each team provide their own balls. So a couple of quarterbacks cried to the league? Is that all it takes for a rule change? Name me one other team sport - just ONE - where the team provides their own balls or any other essential part of the game. Baseball, basketball, heck, tennis, for goodness sake! Sure, in baseball, the home team's clubhouse manager preps 12 dozen balls per game, but they're for the whole game and used at random. In tennis, they just rip open a fresh can and a new ball goes into play. Why can't the NFL do like every other sport?

(BTW - I don't have a dog in this fight either, but I personally hope those cheating Patriots have their butts handed to them on a platter! Belichek (spelling?) is a known cheater and it would serve him right. Frankly, I agree with those who stated that the Pats should be barred from the game entirely. I'd add a thumpin' HUGE fine and a loss of ALL draft picks next year. But that's just me... )

I am not surprised at all about the footballs. You got me thinking about the balls and I went to the NFL rules regarding the specs on the ball. By engineering standards they are pretty loose. Length 11" to 111/4" Long circumference 28 to 281/2 inches, short circumference 21 to 211/4 inches and weight of 14 to 15 ounces. There is nothing that says a team cannot specify tighter tolerances but the general difference between a ball that met the low end verses the high end of the specs could be significant. The only other spec(other than pressure) is that they must be made by Wilson and have the commissioners signature and NFL printed on them. My guess is this is like bats in baseball. Each quarterback has specs that they prefer.

BTW there are many sports that have different pieces of equipment that vary from player to player. Baseball bats being one. Golf clubs are very definitely not one size fits all. Skiing has skis that are custom made for each athlete. Etc. So it is not all that outlandish to have footballs for each team.

As many of the QB'S past and present have stated over the last week is that new footballs are slippery . Hard to hold on to until they are broke in. They all have been saying they use game balls in practice a few months before they go into a game. All teams do this and have for years.

Just remember one thing about all the fuss.

If people are talking about 2PSI in a football they are not talking about the COLTS player arrested just before the playoffs and The wife beater Ray Rice former RAVEN are not headlines. Remember they are the two teams that made the big stink. Throw a little mud on someone else to cool the cameras on your building.

Hopefully not by this guy!

Actually he would be perfect, he could use his needle to inflate their deflated balls!!

All of a sudden, this BIG MARGIN of under inflation isn’t so big a deal after all….

Now, the balls were checked indoors, yes? In heated rooms, right? And air pressure is NEVER affected by temp, according to every kid that has flunked science. And inflated objects never leak, or do they?
So anxious for this to play through. So anxious to hear about the Patriots organization filing lawsuits after the accusers cannot prove any of their claims. Even the NFL cannot verify any ball pressure.

I'm sure all balls will be thoroughly inspected now!! I feel all balls should be inspected before and after use for proper pressure!

Don't know, don't care, I didn't waste my time watching it. I was watching something much better, the "Dukes of Hazzard" marathon on CMT! :D

**BREAKING**
Arizona Department of Transportation is issuing a apology to all football fans. Seems the Patriots Team Bus was put Out Of Service during a safetyInspection. All but one of it's tires were severely under inflated.
NFL sources confirm the team will be delayed while they arrange for alternate transportation.

Seems the Atlanta Falcons are in some trouble.... they have been using fake crowd noise during their home games so their opponents can't hear the play calls.... bet this won't be major news seeings how they suck!....... and everyone bashes the Patriots and calls them cheaters...lol.....They aren't cheaters....they are " Champions." Way to go Pats... on your 4th Super Bowl victory!

Anyone talking about a topic is really not a hater. My brother like the Patriots. They have been accused of suspicious activity and fined for it. Joe Montana won 4 super bowls. Joe Montana and Walter Payton are my all time favorite players. Don't remember any controversy with his play..

Why did the Seahawks pass instead of hand off to Lynch at the end of the game?

Seriously stupid call. You would think that three tries to get it in, inside the 5 would have been a no brainer. This was an all time bonehead move! Stupid Seaslugs!

I heard that Montana weighed in on the situation. He said that without a doubt the QB would've known the balls were deflated beforehand, because he picks the balls he wants to use in the game himself.

Harry, Pete Carroll commented that the Patriots had their goal line defense in to stop the run. He believed instead of a failed run that a pass if it didn't work would be better and run on 2nd and 3rd down I watched the interview on FOX and ESPN about it...
