Plastheniker Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Hi, My old instruction sheet says that this Monogram kit was a 1980 issue. As far as I know there were later reissues, probably with some improvements, possibly also under the Revell label. My 1980 issue was a typical early Monogram kit, i. e. inexpensive and easy to build with only few parts, nevertheless if carefully finished making a convincing curbside model with an excellent interior But even if you don't expect a sophisticated chassis in a curbside kit calling this chassis rudimentary would be still euphemistic. Moreover the modeler should be aware that the kit obviously replicates a modified version of the 308 GTB for the U.S. market. Whoever wants an original European version has to reduce the number of vents in the engine deck lid, and he has to "remove" the muffler cover below the rear bumper. I built my model sometime in the eighties. Even by today's standards the kit makes a nice replica of the beautiful 308 GTB - as long as you do not turn it upside own.
dublin boy Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 X2. I seem to remember Magnum's GTS had the vents behind the headlights painted black too.
Duntov Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Very well executed build --- !!! The quality of your builds is very good!!!!
unclescott58 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Looks great. Didn't like those 308s back in the day, but they've grown on me over the years. I kind of like them now. Scott
Monty Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Looks like yours turned out very nicely, Jürgen. Were you surprised to find it didn't have an engine? I was.
Dominik Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Oha Jürgen, a beauty! Looks really really good!
peekay Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Beautifully painted and detailed as always, Jürgen. I like the comparitively simpler approach that Monogram had. For me, they got the important bits right (mostly) and you could build them without first having to spend hours re-engineering them.
atomicholiday Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I've always loved the 308. Great job on a great Ferrari.
rv1963 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Nice work, don't see this kit being done to often, so good it looks like a new Tamiya kit.
Plastheniker Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the comments! X2. I seem to remember Magnum's GTS had the vents behind the headlights painted black too. I think you are right, Only the GTS version had this paint scheme temporarily - maybe because of the black removable roof.
Jeremy Jon Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Excellent build, looks great from that basic kit, nice work, bravo!!
