JTalmage Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Couldnt find one for a reasonable price and I already had this one sitting in the closet. Edited February 19, 2015 by JTalmage
beeRS Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Nice work Jesse. This is a project that I have contemplated doing before. If I'm not mistaken the Rockford Files Firebird changed over time. It was always the same colour (sorry - color), but I think they kept updating the model with each new TV series. Keep up the good work with this one.
JTalmage Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Correct. It started as a '74 model, and went all the way up to late '78, but James Garner didnt like the '79 model, so they kept the '78 for a couple years.
mustang1989 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 All of your body work looks great Jesse. Filling and sanding were never my favorites of model building but are a necessary evil I'm afraid. Again, looking good!
JTalmage Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Gonna have to put my in progress stuff up for a while. Doing some overtime at work again.
JTalmage Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 I did a little bit more body filler work, and managed to get it in its first coat of primer last week. Been working a ton again so updates will be slow (as usual with my stuff) But here's a few tidbits to check out I think my roof turned out amazing. One spot on the passenger side I'd like to fix though. And I broke the A pillar when working on it once so I have to address that too. I dont know how you guys keep from accidentally smashing these things when doing bodywork! I had put some body filler on quarters behind the door but it fell off when I tried to sand it... guess it doesnt stick to zapagap real well. Hopefully it will now that it has primer. Also needs a little work on the fenders it looks like. But its better than it was!
Bob Ellis Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 JTalmage, the work looks great. Can't wait to see it finished. It's amazing how good primer shows the places you need to do more body work. Better now before its painted.
JTalmage Posted April 15, 2015 Author Posted April 15, 2015 Thank you. I need to get a better filler primer. This doesnt "fill" as good as it should.
freakshow12 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I swear by dupli color filler primer. I even spray it into the lid and brush trouble spots to avoid getting it on the whole body.
JTalmage Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 That's what I'm using. I'm not super impressed with it.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Rustoleum primer is pretty heavy, you could try that.
JTalmage Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 Ugh. I bought some SEM high build primer... and it reacted w/ my OLD crappy red 1-part bondo spot putty. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of sanding and then sealing it w/ another primer before the SEM. This sucks. Gonna take that much longer now.
Bob Ellis Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Not to worry, it's going to look great in the end.
slusher Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Real nice work Jesse, you have this going in the right direction. Keep up the good work....
