B-Ram Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Hey Guys, I have a seen jig that people on this site use to hold their car bodies while painting. Can someone tell me who makes it. It looks like it is spring loaded. Thanks, Bill
DrGlueblob Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Tamiya Paint Stand. You get two in the box, with the smaller spring-loaded. Just right for car bodies. Amazon has them.
pharoah Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I made one from a piece of 3/4" plywood and some heavy gauge wire. Works great!
Deathgoblin Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I made mine too. Pretty much the same way.
Drake69 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I've used a bent coat hanger and a plywood block with holes drilled in it as one. Wasn't too shabby. Then I got the Tamiya stand and LOVE it.
Foxer Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) I always used bent coat hangers and tried a Tamiya stand after seeing many here using it. The body keep falling out of the stand on me.. why no positive lock on such a critical piece? And adjust the spread to fit a body was trial and error of the worst type. So, I made my own with strip of wood and coat hangers ... two upside down U shapes with top bent 90 degrees to the legs that are stuck in the wood. Just bend wired to fit ANY car body without having to reinsert those awkward wires on the Tamiya. I've never lost a body off this and can turn it upside to paint. The poorly designed Tamiya is in the closet. I couldn't find a picture of it but will be happy to post one if any interest. This is so simple and so foolproof. Edited February 12, 2015 by Foxer
Gothicz House Of Kustomz Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I got my stand, man oh man, how the hell did I ever paint without it, did have one issue, free spin on the main base, fixed, with a ill screw, now just need to work on the lighting issue, yep built a red neck spray booth, worked awesome.
Pim Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I built one that I can use like a rotisserie I might put up some pics later
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 This is mine. Not spring loaded, but came with software that allows it to be infinitely adjustable, and adaptable to just about any model car body. Easy to clean too, if you put a disposable glove on it.

I had you figured for more of an analog guy & this looks digital. Is there a lefthanded version for those of us who build Japanese kits? Edited February 14, 2015 by Monty

Is there a lefthanded version for those of us who build Japanese kits? Only 5 digits, and only base 10 (though the software to run it is still pretty impressive, even in a petabyte world). And actually, that IS the lefthanded version. I apply the paint with my left hand. Edited February 14, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
