towman1271 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Awesome seems to be the word for this.. I agree,, its the first reaction when you see it
Scale-Master Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Great job Steve! I hadn't noticed the spears were not the same color on each side. You really captured the personality of that car.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Just gorgeous. I'll have to go read thru the build log, for sure.
Atmobil Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 This looks like a well done build, great job
RancheroSteve Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Ahh, I went back and fixed that crooked piece of BMF that was driving me crazy. Not perfect, but better! Thanks again for the kind words - glad you like it.
W-409 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Excellent looking Mercury Comet you have there! This is one of the best looking Mercurys ever made and I really like your version. The color fits well to body shapes and those steel wheels are beautiful. Nice job.
beeRS Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Excellent job there steve. A very nice model. Is this an AMT kit? I am not familiar with this.
RancheroSteve Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Is this an AMT kit? I am not familiar with this. Yes - originally an AMT kit; last re-issued by Model King in 2007 it appears. A simple curbside kit, but like most of the stuff from that era they got the look right. They're getting a bit hard to find now. A review here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=3155
bbowser Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 What can I add, great looking model! Did you re-do the bumpers, I don't see any typical mold lines? Also, did you use straight pins for the bumper bolts? Those look very realistic.

Also, did you use straight pins for the bumper bolts? Those look very realistic. Thanks! Yes - good eye - the bumpers were re-worked and re-chromed (by Little Motor Kar Company). And the bumper bolts are pin heads - the smallest I could find. The Durability Comets had extra bumper bolts. No one is quite sure why, but the best guess is that it made it easier to jack the cars up for pit stops.
stavanzer Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 It IS A beautiful Build! I'm going to have to search for more info about these Comets. Off to Google I go.
RancheroSteve Posted March 19, 2020 Author Posted March 19, 2020 (edited) Thanks - nice to get some attention and compliments after all this time. You guys might also dig this (which I finished around the same time): Edited March 19, 2020 by RancheroSteve
