geetee66 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Done it at last! My 4th build and 2nd flame-job. Auto paint topped with Tamiya clear and Future floor polish. A few aftermarket trinkets and a bit of BMF. Hope you like it
kk916 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Wow! Very nice job! especially on the trim and emblems.
Raul_Perez Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Very nice, traditional look!! How about some engine and chassis pics!!
geetee66 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 I'll take some better shots later tonight, but here's the engine minus the aircleaners. I know the carbs will not be easily visible, but I couldn't help myself.... I'll roll the car onto it's side and take some shots of the oily side later as well... cheers
Andy Wyatt Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Very nice! One question...why the Future and Tamiya clear. Never heard of anyone doing that, but it sure looks nice!
geetee66 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Very nice! One question...why the Future and Tamiya clear. Never heard of anyone doing that, but it sure looks nice! Thankyou Maybe it was overkill with the Future over the Tamiya clear, but it helped smooth-over areas that were difficult to wet sand during earlier stages of painting. Here are some pics of the engine and oily side... The purple on the mufflers and dampers is less blue to the naked eye. Can't seem to get the light right for that colour..
bobss396 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Cool Merc, and an AMT one at that. I always liked them and yours looks good in the black & purple. Bob
dub Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Excellent! A nice departure from the Revell Mercs at the moment. I love the front end treatment and that black is positively liquid!
RodBurNeR Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 very nice all around, has a real old school feel! clean work!
kasteer Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Great paintjob! That's one beautiful Merc! Great detail!
Robert81 Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Very nice, I've got one of those AMT mercs on my bench. I leaning towards more of a hotrod look. I'm trying to get up the nerve to chop the top. If I could continue a project from start to finish without getting sidetracked, I would post pictures.

Robert, I know what you mean about getting the nerve to cut into it. At least you can get your kits easily over there. I had to import mine from Canada via eBay. Cost me $30 incl p&p, so I couldn't afford to mess it up by trying out some new techniques. Maybe I'll try it sometime....
evilone Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 very clean bro cant wait to see ur next project
walt francis Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Wow !!!!!!!!!! You put it out of the park .......HOMERUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ramonesblues Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Wow, an unchopped Merc! What a concept!! This could catch on.

I live in Canada, and have to ship almost everything from the US. I live in a back water town with little to no Modeling resources. I can get some paint, at a railroad shop, but little else. For a single kit it comes out to be about $30us including s&h. Not to long ago, not having a hobby shop, was not a big deal. I could go on EBay and order/bid on a kit and get it for about the same or less than a hobby shop. That included shipping and handling. I even got some harder to find stuff for a good price, but now, even a "cheap" kit will cost $30-$40 including s&h.
FactoryStock54 Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Don't think I've ever met a 49 Merc I didn't like, whether it was factory stock or custom. Yours is beautiful! Wonderful paint job; I've had great results applying Future directly over Tamiya TS and AS paints in the past as well. I am especially impressed by the great job of foiling on the trim. . .subtle and perfect!
