mustang1989 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) Motor's lookin' good Tim!! Stance is right on and that chassis looks killer!! Edited March 7, 2015 by mustang1989
taaron76 Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 Thanks guys! The stance was tricky since the suspension has travel and a little bounce to it with those springs in place. Going to try and get the lower half painted tonight, time willing. Tim
taaron76 Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 I finally got to shoot some black and then clear tonight. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I think once the trim is BMF'd that separates the black and red, plus the chrome rims, it will break it up nicely and the color combo should look good. Prepped and ready for the black base coat. 3 coats of black base coat, then into the dehydrator for 15-20 minutes or so. Just before the clear coat went on. This one got 6-7 total coats of clear on it, so it should be glass once its wet sanded and polished. It's hard to really get the sparkle and pearl out that's in the red, but it really is a cool color under the light, especially sunshine.
Pierre_tec Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 That 2 tone paint job looks amazing!!!! btw, what use to do the springs???looks so real
taaron76 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks fellas! The springs are made with wire by wrapping it around a round piece similar in size to the spring and number of coils. They are rather simple, you should give it a try sometime. Tim
taaron76 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 The hood had a couple of spots I didn't like, so I stripped it and its in the paint booth now. I sanded the body down pretty flat, but at going to give it a few more coats of clear tonight to fix a couple of spots or dust. I hate dust! Tim
mustang1989 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Bravo!!!! What a job so far!!!! Incredible paint bud, just incredible!
TFchronos Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Beautiful color choice, the engine looks great too. Very nice work!
tbill Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 that is really going to pop once the bmf is on it, love the color combo, looking great.
taaron76 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Sometimes you make things worse by trying to fix the simplest things. I stripped the hood to repaint it and wound up with more dust than I started with. Oh well... its going to stay like that! I am wrapping up the interior and should have some pics tonight. Tim
Sledsel Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 FYI When painting the hood, and body for that matter, keeping the part vertical helps keep the dust from settling. If the body is vertical, there is not much area exposed to dust. The BMF is gonna set it off nice.
slusher Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Beautiful paint and color choice Tim. The black looks so much better then i thought it would. Chassis and engine look great also....
taaron76 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Unfortunately, my spray booth pulls in dust. That's just a part of painting everyone will endure. It's not that there is a lot of, it's just that there is a piece a little bigger than I'd like to accept, but it will be my trademark on this build. Lol Tim
taaron76 Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Slowly but surely, making progress... Kids Spring Break this week, so we have been out doing some skiing. I finally got the interior buttoned up. I didn't go crazy on the interior, I never do, but one day I will. lol Here are a couple shots. Go easy on me... Tim
taaron76 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Another quick update... Before laying down the BMF on the side trim, I tried out the decal that came with the kit and actually like it enough not to BMF that area. The edges are silver and the inside is white. I think it breaks up the two colors pretty good. I'l start the BMF process on the rest of the window trim tonight. Tim
taaron76 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Last update for the night - Engine bay is complete! Tim
Drake69 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Who in the BLAZES did you channel at the Impala plant in the past to build something like this? This car is going to be SICK!
taaron76 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Allen - That's funny! lol I just searched for a bunch of reference pics and then went with what I thought would look cool and unique. I wasn't totally sure that they red pearl and black two-tone with a tan interior was going to look that good, but I went with my gut and stuck to my guns and I think it will turn out nice once its finished. Thank you! Tim
taaron76 Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 My nightly update... Most of the exterior is done. I think I have wipers, door handles, door locks and badges to put on tomorrow. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow night. Tim
taaron76 Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Thanks fellas! This one is "Under Glass" now. Pics are in that forum I just posted to. Tim
