Mopar - D Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Joe looking forward to see some pictures of the paint job.
Davewilly Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Ok Joe, You spent 2 HOURS in a Paint Booth!? I'm Guessing you're just about ready to do a Cheech n Chong "Daves Not Here" skit!no man I'm Dave!
Davewilly Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Its looking good Joe! keep up the hard work its paying off on this
mustang1989 Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Thanks Dave!! I just wasn't feelin' the paint job from earlier so in the brake fluid it went to strip everything and started the whole process over again only this time the paint came out smoother and I actually made it to the clear coat this time around Here it is with the paint and the clear. I still have to apply the flames (which I ordered an adhesive template today from Australia) and clear it again. Then it'll be down to polishing and buffing out the clear. We're gettin' there folks! Here's a mock up with the grille just stuck in place:
Mopar - D Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Joe,Your paint and and clear coat look nice. When I ordered my flame templates some came in 3 days and others took 2 weeks to arrive I hope yours come in sooner.
mustang1989 Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Thanks Dan! I'll be building around it. I'll probably build the truck bed and get everything else going so the flames will be the last thing that needs to be done if everything goes right.
gatorincebu Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Nice looking paint job. I also like the stance. Be Well Gator
mustang1989 Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Gator and Carl: Thanks a lot fellas! The truck bed is coming right along and I hope to be done with that part by Friday.
mustang1989 Posted September 27, 2015 Author Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks Dave! Things are crawlin' along with this build. Nothing to post pics about yet. I mean all I'd be posting is a tail gate painted, then maybe some steps and the hood scoop. I will say this , the next update will be a big one so just know that I am in fact still progressing with this truck. 12 more days to go.............. Edited September 27, 2015 by mustang1989
Yo Jutt Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 This truck keeps getting better and better!!! Well done!
tbill Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Joe, you're a mad man! super build man, your attention to detail is borderline insane............but sure nice to look at
mustang1989 Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Justin: Thanks a lot man! Tom: LOL! Thank you for your comments. I think it's now bordering on going koo-koo! So far so good here. It's been a bit since my last update but I've been painting body parts now for the last two weeks. Here's a quick test fit. I need to raise the front end just a tad but I'm likin' it so far. Flames came in last night so I hope to get started on that pretty quick.

mustang1989 Posted October 1, 2015 Author Posted October 1, 2015 Thanks Dave!! I've about got the truck bed done. I've installed the "mini tubs" and got the wood bed all painted up (top and bottom), got the tail gate and hinges on and now I'm working on the tail lights and license plate. Pics soon hopefully............
Mopar - D Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Looking good Joe! Am I going to get to see it next week end?
mustang1989 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Man I hope so Dan. I'm really trying hard but am not going to get in a rush with it and foul it all up after all I've been through with this thing.
slusher Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Man thats a fantastic looking paint finish Joe, i don't know if i could chance flames on that finish....
mustang1989 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Thanks Carl. Right now I'm pretty happy with the flames as this is exactly the look I was after. Kind of like a ghost flame of sorts. I like it! Gotta let it cure out and wet sand the roughness off of it but its perfect.
Drunken Goat Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Looks awesome. What paint did you use for the flames?
mustang1989 Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 Thanks Gary! I decanted some Dark Red from a Testors Model Master spray can that was just a tad darker than the Tamiya X-7 I used for the body color.
Drunken Goat Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Came out great. on my phone it looks like straight pearl.
