wasn't there recently (last year or so) a at-least-2-part article in this magazine called Model Cars or something about building and modifying this very kit, to make it look like it wasn't designed in Checzsolvakia? I thought there was.

Hey. Someone my articles... Well at least two of them. ? The scorpion series spanned about two years. You can find some finished pictures under glass here at the forum. And, yes, it took a good bit of surgery to get he ugly out of it. Thanks for the mention!

I'd like to know more about this kit. A web search turns up very little on it. It's my understanding from others on this site, that body was taken from AMT's Astro I kit. I'm mainly interested in learning how much of the old Astro I kit was left unmolested?

I don't. I don't think I've ever even looked at a copy, at least not that I can remember.

From what I can tell, only the body of the Astro 1 is in the Scorpion kit- at least what's left of the body. The back of the body is heavily modified. The chassis is 100% Piranha, the only changes being the headers and the rear tires.

I don't have an Astro 1 for comparison but here is the first mock up of the basic kit. The glass the same because it still had the windshield wiper molder in. The Scorpion may cost as much as the Astro.

Maybe someone can post an Astro.

PS - You can preview the magazine by clicking on the link to the model cars site. I hear you can also find it at Barnes and Nobel. I think it's a good publication. Something about turning pages adds to the fun.
