Greg Myers Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) First off I realize there is really no agreeable definition of these terms. So lets just get to the model kits that represent these types of cars. A resent reissue, AMT's Piranha Super Spy Car got me thinking about these cars. another "Kit Car" from IMC, the Avenger Another old hard to find Replica ? from Bandi , the Excalibur, Edited March 9, 2015 by Greg Myers

sjordan2 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 In addition to the Excalibur, Bandai also made a 1/12 Alfa Romeo Zagato that was based on a 1966-67 replicar, made on a commission from Alfa to observe an anniversary. It had the 1600 engine.

Atmobil Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Interesting topic, one of my planned projects are a Cobra with a VW floorpan, engine and drivetrain. But for information, the Excalibur was never a kitcar. It was built from various parts sources but never sold as a kit. A friend of mine has a early SS roadster and that has Studebaker frame, Corvette engine, GM masterbrakecylinder and Dunlop discbrakes from a Jaguar XK140. Another kitcar in kit form is the Tamiya Lotus Super Seven: And the Tamiya 1:12 Caterham Super Seven
Greg Myers Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Thanks Gaute, how did I miss that Iconic vehicle? And you are correct on the Excalibur. http://www.mcsmk8.com/79-EXCAL/79-EXCALIBUR.html Edited March 9, 2015 by Greg Myers
unclescott58 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I hate to come off a little naive, but what kind of car is the Avenger car suppose to be? GT40 clone? And did the kit have anything to do with old British Avenger TV series? Scott
cartpix Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 The Avenger was a kit produced by Fiberfab, in the early 60's. It was based on a VW & was a Ford GT clone. They also had a kit, with a custom frame, that used a mid mounted V8. It didn't have anything to do with the Avenger TV series. It was just named Avenger. Jeff
sjordan2 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Whether or not the Excalibur was a kit doesn't really matter, does it? If not an exact replicar, which is also part of the subject of this thread, it was still an homage with lots of copied elements from Mercedes.
Greg Myers Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) The Fiberfab Avenger GT http://www.avenger-valkyrie.org/general.htm quintessential kit car of the '60's , certainlly following design ques from the Le Mans Ford GT40's.Had nothing to do with the TV show. These were for the most part VW "rebodies".Earlier kit cars of this eilk were built on stock Ford, Studebaker or even Jeep chassis with V8 power. Kellison GT Astra Edited March 9, 2015 by Greg Myers
unclescott58 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I'd like to see more on both IMC Avenger model kit, and full-size Fiberfab version. Anybody have photos of either they can post here? Scott
