'69 Mustangs....

15 March 2015 - 01:40 PM

Every once in a while these cars come up in discussion but I don't think I've ever seen a real comparison done. Soooo, here's a few pics for the historians and the generally curious ...  ^_^

mpc on left, original amt middle and revell on right

hoods: mpc, amt, revell

dashes: amt, mpc, revell

bodies/grilles: mpc, amt, revell

tails: mpc, amt, revell

The mpc body noted is currently badged as amt, available on any street corner you could name. Seems to be re-released every couple of years and is definitely underscale in all proportions. The original amt body was modified into the '70, then possibly a funny car shell but never reissued in original form. The revell kit was an '80s issue originally, reportedly copied from a 1/10 scale '70 wooden master used for the 1/24 monogram '70 boss 429 kit. Very well done kit but for the woebegone mess at the front

Hoping to find a set of unused headlight buckets and lenses from the 1/12 Camaro kit...

Cowboy figures in 1/25?

Anyone aware of these in scale, along with other western accessories like saddles, etc?

Monkees '87 Mustang

07 April 2014 - 07:49 PM

Curiosity about the tales I've heard about the monogram monkees mustang summoned a very reasonably priced example to my mailbox recently. As I also had an unbuilt '83/'84 ragtop here and some very sweet builds have surfaced lately, I thought a few contrast pics were in order, just to add to the kitbashers pool of knowledge here on the site.

The Monkees kit was obviously a transition kit using the '79-'86 interior and '83-'85 mechanical parts under the new for '87 body, thrown half-baked on the market to capitalize on their Monkees theme licence. It was molded in a funky swirled blue plastic to somewhat replicate the marbleized paint on the real car. The body had the necessary external updates but shared the engine bay with the earlier convertible body. Interior bucket and dash were also carried over.

5.0 litre 4v dual snorkel air cleaner equipped engine was also a straight reissue. Chrome shot contrast shows wheel difference and similar single exhaust. Chrome pony wheels and dual exhaust from later issue shown as well for contrast.

Here's a contrast of early and late chassis showing minor trimming on tail end and extra holes for dual exhaust mounting

The monkees kit is a very affordable alternative to the earlier '83 kit for those looking for the 5.0 parts and dash for backdating other Fox body kits.
