Timonator
I'm beginning building a Trumpeter GT40. I've started with working on the way that the body panels fit. I've also stripped all of the chrome parts. I am trial building it with white glue to find the problems first. I plan on building it like the black 66 LeMans car it's supposed to be. Miatatom
Looking good! I've screwed the hood up so bad on a Fujimi GT40 that I doubt that I can salvage it.

Cato
Pay particular attention to the rear clip sides where they meet the side tanks - there will be a gap. Also where the rear clip fastens over the roof pin. You'll need to thin that part of the clip a bit to get it flush. To do all that, you'll need the chassis and interior tubs in place because it changes where these places contact. Just fitting doors and body panels like you're doing is the way to give yourself fits. Once you get this all perfect, it changes with even the thinnest coats of paint. Keep trial fitting and adjusting throughout. Don't open the box and paint the body first if you want a serious model. We'll get into lowering the front when you get there. Didn't say it would be easy....
jaymcminn
What Cato said. I thought I had mine perfectly dialed in until the final test fitting over the finished floor pan, which revealed a ton of fitment issues that I had to correct before priming and painting the body panels. It's a fun kit, but challenging to say the least. Feel free to PM me with any questions, and good luck!
Timonator
Here's some pics of how the rear clip fits and my engine and exhaust mock up. How do you paint the exhaust ? In peices ?
Cato
Yes, paint each pipe, weather them and join. Don't forget the weld beads at each curved section. The pipes will be darker near the collector ends; lighter where the hottest, at ports and bends. That anti-roll bar under the headers is totally bogus. I made new trailing arms and a/ r bar from .075" coat hanger wire. Make simple heim joint connectors from styrene.

Timonator
Are you supposed to GLUE these upper control arms to the pin behind the coil over ?
Timonator
Another question. How are the rear wheels held on ? Glue? The fronts have screws but the directions show no screws for the rears.
jaymcminn
Another question. How are the rear wheels held on ? Glue? The fronts have screws but the directions show no screws for the rears. They glue into place.Use five-minute epoxy and make sure they're aligned properly.
Timonator
Thanks, I wasn't sure. There are holes there that look like they would take screws.
Timonator
Do these coolant lines go to anything ? Do they just end underneath the radiator ?
cobraman
I really like that car. I would love to build one but I know I couldn't do it justice. Keep it going.

Timonator
Here's a couple pics of the body with basecoat and decals. A couple of the decals didn't go on as well as I would have liked.
LaughingIndian
Sweet ... that body is a beauty. The decals look nice and flat and opaque ... what problem were they? Is the whiskey glass a before or after pic?
