New AAR hood for the new Revell 1:25 scale Cuda kit

New AAR hood for the new Revell 1:25 scale Cuda kit.

This is not based on the old Revell AAR Cuda hood.

This is my own creation. I used my friend's AAR Cuda hood for measurements.

It should be availbale in about a week or so.

I need to do some more finish work on it.

I'm thinking of posting these on eModelCars, since a lot of people seem to not like ebay.

I can sell for less on eModelCars without all the ebay fees.

Sam, you DO KNOW that ALL FACTORY hoods for the AAR's had the slight buldge in them about 1/3rd of the way up the hood from the front, (Kinda even with the top of the scoop opening), din't ya? Thats ok if ya din't caz at this scale ya probably couldn't see it, but it IS there! WHY it's there has never really been explained to me,though. But it is.

Yep, I saw that in the full size hood over 25 years ago. I have been a mopar e body freak since the age of 10. So that's why I included that odd shape. Don't know why they have it, but it's probably the same reason chrysler k car trunk lids boat up on one side and never fit flush. They just didn't care about the tooling I guess. Thanks for noticing.

Ben, if you trim the decals right, you can use the ones from the 24th scale AAR kit. The are very nicely done, and some quick measureing should gettcha pretty

close.I'm not sure, but you MIGHT check out Keith Marks to see if he carries a set.

Yes, I have test fit the hood on the new Revell kit. It's not exactly where I want it yet, but it's getting close. Also, making 8 3/4" rear spoiler and a 340 6-pack engine with both manual and automatic transmissions. Essentially, a complete AAR conversion kit for the new Cuda. I do need to find somebody who does decals.

I am just the messenger, but a I used to tool around in my buddy's AAR cuda back in the late 70's and his hood was perfectly aligned with the fenders. my other buddy's AAR was bowed about an inch (if memory serves me right). many a mopar nats later, we saw AAR's with and without this bowed hood syndrome. we came to the conclusion that they get bowed because they are fiberglass hoods bolted to hood hinges, even with a soft spring replacing the origional, after a while of pulling on the front of that hood bows it since they are only bolted in the rear of the hood. and why was my buddys straight? the original owner cracked his hood it the area you have described, bought another hood and had steel rods run up the inner support and glassed in to keep the hood straight. no joke, not saying this is the answer, just my experience. I will see if I can find pictures and scan them in.

My brother's best friend had a rich Dad, who bought the kid a brand-new 1970 AAR 'Cuda, in the blue color that for some reason you rarely see. Quite a car for anyone, let alone a high school kid. It DID most definitely have the hood bulge. I always wrote it off to poor fit of a fiberglass hood on a steel body, as the few others that I saw when they were brand new all had the bulging hoods as well.

forgot about this thread. has this hood been cast? have I missed it?

anyways, don't want to hijack this thread and I certainly am not calling anyone out on this, but the factory did not put a bump, budge, bend or any other word you want to come up with in the AAR hoods, there is no mention of it in any publication I have read. nor have I ever seen any documentation on this. again, to my knowledge, this "bend" in the hood was caused by opening, closing, a little too tall air cleaner or just plain old laying, or leaning in the factory just too long, they will tend to bend and warp that way also.. if anyone can come up with any information on this hood, I would love to see it. would make interesting reading. I have scanned the internet on this and have come up empty.

By all accounts , the AAR and Trans Am (Challenger) hoods would buckle , bend , warp , etc. , due to lack of reinforcement on their perimetre . Similar to the bending of the hoods of the 1973-1979 GM pickups ; no reinforcement .

I would take one. Al is correct about the hood bow. Plenty of Shelby Mustangs and the Chrysler 300 Hurst share a common bowing of the fibergalss parts.

I vividly recall see a short video clip about four years ago where it mentioned the proper way to open the AAR Cuda hood so it would not bow or gap.

Unlike traditional metal hoods the AAR`'s fiberglass hood wasn't strong enough to withstand the traditional method of grabbing the front leading edge of the hood and lifting it up.

The trick was to released the hood latch and PLACE YOUR HAND INSIDE THE HOOD SCOOP OPENING PALM SIDE UP. With the palm of your hand firmly resting against the underside of the hood lift up with that hand. Closing of the hood should be excuted in the same manner.

The moderator said that this method was the only way to keep it from warping/bowing.

He went on to say that you could open the hood it the traditional manner but eventually repeated improper opening and closing would cause the fiberglass to bend or warp.

I`ll look around to see if I can resurrect that video clip...for some reason I keep thinking I saw it on the AAR Registry site.
