StevenGuthmiller
Well, as can sometimes happen, I've begun to lose interest in a '62 Chrysler 300 build the more I researched this '59 Bonneville. So this one may be "leap frogging" ahead. Although I will still try to keep the 300 moving along also. I think the body prep is all done & ready for priming. I'll start doing that this evening. I also swiped a set of wheels from an old Plymouth kit as the originals were a little chewed up from over gluing, as is pretty common. A new set of Modelhaus "Satco" tires await as well. One of the reasons I build so many hard tops. I still have a '60 to do as well. Steve
om617
This should be good. This year Pontiac remind me a little of the 59 Mercury, mostly at the rear i guess. Anyone considered use the Trumpeter 60 and bash for full detail? Maby not worth it for the sake of value.

But I will be building this as a curbside so swapping will be minimal. Although I may be able to use a few parts when I build the '60. Lord knows I'll never build the Trumpeter kit! That's what I hear. I have good glass for these, & even if not, I understood we had a year or so before that happens. Steve

peekay
Looking forward to this. I love all the "wide track" Pontiacs, which I think started with the '59.
Stray
I love primer. I wanna do a car and just leave it in primer someday. Looking good so far dude.
James2
Primer makes things look so clean, but i'm looking forward to some color.
StevenGuthmiller
Got a start on the paint on this one today. Started with the coral color which will adorn the top, wheels & the panel between the tail lights. That is the toughest part of painting this model! I always get so nervous about masking chromed parts for painting. Even a little bit of "bleed under" & your part is ruined! Not to mention the risk of the tape pulling up chrome & that sort of thing. But the trusty BMF & Tamiya tape came through again! I wouldn't even attempt something like this anymore without these types of products! Anyway, I'm happy with the results. Now it's on tho the gray body color. Steve

StevenGuthmiller
Looks almost pink on my monitor ? Isn't that what coral is? This is the same color I used on my '59 Dodge. The darker of the 2 colors is the "Coral". The lighter color is called "Rose Quartz" Now that's pink!! Steve
espo
The chrome bumper looks really nice, did you have it redone ?
StevenGuthmiller
The chrome bumper looks really nice, did you have it redone ? Yes David. With these old annuals the chrome parts are usually in rough shape so I almost always have them re-chromed. Even if the chrome is pretty good, a lot of times I just want to get rid of the mold lines. The last time I sent parts off, I got parts for 8 kits re-chromed for about $50.00. Well worth it to me! Steve

peekay
You pulled that off very nicely. Yes, that sort of work can get pretty tense but there is proportionately more satisfaction when you get it right. The yin'n'yang of modelling.
StevenGuthmiller
I'm betting that the '59 Bonneville never came in this color combo, but I like it! The gray paint can look a little like primer if the light doesn't hit it right. I had a little trouble spraying this gray. Couldn't seem to get it to spray wet enough, so it's a little rough in texture, but it'll be fine after clear & polish. I'm wondering if the paint sprayed so dry because of the high volume of metal flake in it. Lots of "metallic" in this one! Steve
misterNNL
Every time I see one of these I remember how all of us of a certain age took our driver's tests in these. What a treat to parallel park they were!
LokisTyro
How many turns of the ship's wheel did it take to parrelel park?!? I like your color choices, Steve. Bet it will look stunning in the sun when it's polished. Edited March 18, 2015 by LokisTyro
