502
I have been captivated by the Rolling Bones over the past year with a growing interest in traditional hot rods. I needed a break from my 29 roadster so I started chopping this 32. I’ve been wanting to do a hard chop with the a pillars leaned back for sometime now. For whatever reason I’ve always had a thing for the 5 windows whether it be a 32 or 33/34. It’s gone pretty smooth for it being my first time chopping a car. I’m going to try to get the doors lined up and filled in tomorrow. Edited July 1, 2018 by
502
Last night I finished aligning the b and c pillar. I split the b pillar at the door seam, made a couple cuts and moved it forward. Edited October 25, 2017 by
Ace-Garageguy
Looks very good.I did a tutorial on chopping the '34 3-window, and showed much the same procedure as you've used with the A-pillars.Though I understand why you did what you did (an angled chop, avoiding lengthening the roof, and avoiding heavy re-work of the C-pillars), it usually makes life somewhat easier if you can manage to come straight down on the B-pillars and rear door gap, and limit your major rework to the ends...in full scale cars as well. 502
Thank you. I tend to prefer an angled chop, to me it just looks nasty. On a hard chop I think leaning the a pillars back is a must. However that's just my opinion so take that for what its worth (probably not much lol). I fell in love with Ben Haag's "pale rider", this car has aided in my obsession with these style cars. After seeing this car earlier this year I've since wanted to do a similar chop but on a 5 window. Edited October 25, 2017 by

Mr. Metallic
Based on your other recent work I know I'll be following along on this one. Plans for running gear yet?
502
Based on your other recent work I know I'll be following along on this one. Plans for running gear yet? I want to do something different so I'm not sure yet. I wouldn't mind doing an olds rocket motor or a flat head. I bought a frenzel supercharger off ebay this morning for a flat head so that might be neat. I started patching the a pillars, it’s gonna take a little work getting the door lines matched up. 502
A bit more work done on the a pillar. I’m gonna have to pick up some files to finish it. Lol my fingers are to fat to get in there to work the details out. I really need to get the lines in the door sharpened up. I’m more than pleased with my first attempt at this. DustyMojave
That Pale Rider is a very sweet coupe. I like where you're going with your build here. And I like that you post pics from my neighborhood, even though you're across the country. I can see the hill in the background from my house. And the Kong heads....Kong Jackson was an old friend of mine. Where did you get those heads?

DustyMojave
Since posting that question, I was looking at Kong heads and a great many other items on the Shapeways site. They do 3D printing, casting and such. Hundreds of pages of stuff.https://www.shapeways.com/marketplace/miniatures/vehicles/?q=&sort=popularity&facet[pdcId][0]=455&facet[isCustomizable]=0&facet[price][min]=1&facet[price][max]=2500&facet[price][from]=1&facet[price][to]=2500&s=0#more-productsI believe the Frenzel blower and Kong heads parts are made by Shapeways for the seller. In most cases, it appears that you can buy them from the vendor, or you can buy them from Shapeways.

modelfink
Good score. That Stacy David firewall is a nice piece! I need one of those.
502
Here is the frenzel supercharger, at this point I'm not sure if I will use it. This piece is very nice quality it just needs some minimal sanding. Over the weekend I picked an olds rocket motor and I'm leaning towards using it instead. I made a roof insert using the monogram 32 hood sides. The louvered hood is also from the monogram 32 which as you can see is a bit longer than the newer offerings from revell. This actually worked out well for me because I was wanting to slightly stretch the front end anyways. The wheels and front tires are from the revell 29 roadster. The rear tire is from the monogram 41 lincoln so I had to add a strip of styrene around the outside of the rear wheel so it fits properly. Dennis Lacy
Another killer project from your bench! Nice work on the roof louvers, very similar to how I did it on my current '30 A Coupe project. Full louvered hood is gonna be awesome, too.I say go with the Olds engine. It'll make more power stock than a Frenzel blown Flathead, as neat as it is.

chris chabre
VERY COOL. I worked at Rolling Bones for a few years, enjoyed it but moved on to refocus on my goals. i Did minor amounts of work to Varnis sedan, but Swanders 5 Window, Mannos sedan, and Poteets 34 all have quite a bit my fab work on them. I’d say that was definitely a cool experience. Got a little more work done. The chop is finished until I get some primer sprayed on it. I’m sure there is going to be some areas that need work. I also cut the rear floor out which I am going to replace with a more stock appearing floor. The rails are also going to be kicked up a little.
