Dragline Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Extremely well done and very convincing. The finishes, which are so important are well done. I would be proud to call it my own work.
Ian McLaren Posted May 8, 2021 Author Posted May 8, 2021 First coat of Tamiya Gunship Grey to see what it looks like and to spot areas that have to be repaired before the final coat. It gives the scale effect of black without hiding the detail and is also a lower gloss paint.
Codi Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Fun to watch you and Francis as you assemble/complete your respective builds. Looks great Ian. cheers, tim

I have finished the body work and layed down the while base color and happily it came out pretty well. Letting it cure for a few days before color sanding and blocking it. I hope to start the Red graphics mid next week.
Ian McLaren Posted May 15, 2021 Author Posted May 15, 2021 Just had to get photo in sunshine, White is done now for the red graphics

AmericanMuscleFan Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 It's very nice Ian! The natural sunlight makes it pop, the red graphics will only add to the beauty of this great funny car! ?

Ian McLaren Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 Color is on now, touchup and polishing, in preparation for the striping and pearl mid coat. The pearl that is being used is Murano Pearl powder left over from the original paint job on the real car 40 plus years ago. I'm going to have to be extremely careful with it as would easily overpower the base colors on the model (a very little goes a long way).

Codi Posted June 2, 2021 Posted June 2, 2021 That's some serious masking you did there Ian. You must have a LOT of patience. cheers, tim
Ian McLaren Posted June 23, 2021 Author Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) In the process of finishing up details on the chassis while I wait for the pearl powder and decals to arrive so the body can be completed. The Royal Canadian is held up waiting for the motor to arrive . Here is an early mock up of the chassis, a couple of the out of scale details have been corrected since this was taken and the body work has also been finish since this photo. Edited June 23, 2021 by Ian McLaren stupid fingers
Ian McLaren Posted June 27, 2021 Author Posted June 27, 2021 This is as far as I can go on the chassis. Moving on to the body as the Pearl powder that was used on the original car 40+ year's ago arrived last week. Going to shoot some test panels first before committing the body as this is the real deal Murano pearl and could easily overwhelm the existing colors on the body. Still waiting for the custom decals but the can go on last as the originals were painted on after the clear on the original car.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 This is a very clean build, it's great Ian, you can be proud of your good work because it looks like the real thing! ?

Thank you Francis that means a lot! The goal has been realism from the start. I don't have the skills or equipment to be able to produce work at the level that you, Cody and others are capable of , and that's OK and I am pleased that the model looks plausibly real.
Tortuga Kustomz Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 the details on this project is incredible Ian, love every single part of it...
Cubeman Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 There are so many outstanding craftsman on this forum. You belong definitely to to the top notch.
Ian McLaren Posted July 3, 2021 Author Posted July 3, 2021 Small update making my own parachute pack for mounting on the body support bracket completed. Transit pin and removal flag done but not shown
Ian McLaren Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 Just finishing up some details on the chassis, I have been shooting some test panels with the original Murano Pearl that was used on the real car forty plus years ago , and I think I'm ready to risk it on the body itself this week end
gasser59 Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 This is such an epic build Ian. I have to also give kudos to your photography. Some of those pictures are poster worthy.
